I love a man in uniform !!!
one misstep - moving the casket onto the base in the Rotunda, one guy almost tripped going around the side, regained his footing and carefully moved ahead.
What a great story. My oldest brother had a military funeral and one of the honor guard started crying. He was not allowed to wipe away the tears. We thought he was a personal friend but found out later that he wasn't. What great young men these are.
Kudos to The Old Guard. They also guard the Tomb of the Unknowns. If I'd joined the Army instead of the Marines, I'd have joined The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps.
They were awesome- in the true sense of that word- last night.
Great story. I was just telling my Dad yesterday what a great job they did. . . and we wondered if they got any time to practice.
Our guys are the BEST.
Thanks for posting.
I took the high-resolution photo in the article and put it into my WebShots screen saver. Fantastic.
Do you know what town in Wisconsin Spc Sullivan hails from?
I also noticed this. He made it look effortless.
Excellent article. These guys did a heck of a job !! I was impressed. Thanks for the post and pings ! :^D
This something that their familes will be talking about generations from now.
What an honor!
The Rotunda was tough for the bearers. The base of the platform for the casket flaired out so much that the bearers had to extend their arms too much for the weight they were carrying. Did an excellent job! I was watching this on Fox, and after the one bearer almost tripped the camera operator cut away just in case there was a stumble.
As I watched the military perform the flyover, the 21 gun salute, the band playing and the men carrying the coffin up all those stairs, I thought "America's military IS the best of the best of the best!"
bttt
As a proud soon-to-be Coast Guard sister, I was very pleased to see Coasties carrying the casket and serving as honor guards along with the other services.
My brother was born towards the end of the Reagan administration - I myself was born only a month after his first Inauguration. Neither of us knew a world without him as our President.
Great story!
You must be about the same age as my youngest daughter! She was born at the end of March of that year. In fact, I was getting ready to go home from the hospital when the assasination attempt happened! I saw people running down the hall to the waiting area where there was a tv. It was a frightening time in the middle of an otherwise joyous time! Thankfully, he survived and pulled through!
Hooah Ping!
