U.S. Charges Australian Linked to al-Qaida

WASHINGTON - An Australian held at the Navy's prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will face a military tribunal for allegedly training and fighting alongside members of al-Qaida in Afghanistan (news - web sites), the Pentagon (news - web sites) announced Thursday.

Does anyone who monitors the islamic sites have any updates on the 6/23 date or any other date this week? Walking to Penn Station early this evening for my commute home I walked through Times Square like I do every day. Today, I was actually startled for a minute when I was practically face to face with two robocops. A couple of stone faced helmeted cops with machine guns at the ready standing right in the heart of Times Square. I have never seen them among the tourists in such a busy area before. They were standing near the recruiting station across from the Good Morning American Studio. I felt uneasy and practially ran to the train station. All along the 8 block route to Penn there were cops. This morning the security was normal but tonight NYC clearly appeared to be on high alert for something. Did any else notice stepped up security anywhere in their travels today?

Ruth, there was a storm some years ago, a hurricane. It caused problems over at Plum Island. Some materials found there way out into the waterways. Some speculate that that was where the lyme disease outbreak which began in the late '80s hailed from, if I am not mistaken. I was involved at the time in government and I put together a program that brought together our elected officials with scientists and community groups throughout the tri-state area here in a public forum addressing lyme disease. No blame was cast; it was in early 1988 and all people wanted to know was how to protect themselves and spot the disease early on in case they were bitten by the tick that caused it.

Yes, there is alot to say about Plum Island that is worrisome. I don't want to remember anymore from memory though; I will post when I can verify more. I do remember that some papers about Plum Island were found in a cave or safe house over in Afghanistan though.

An Indian national abducted and tortured by religious police for "spreading Christianity" remains jailed without trial weeks after his detention. Brian Savio O'Connor, 36, was accosted in the Mursalat district of Riyadh on March 25 by four policemen, Compass Direct reported.
After discovering that O'Connor was a Christian, they beat him for seven hours. In response to questions, O'Connor admitted that he did preach the Bible, but denied converting Muslims to Christianity. Authorities then charged him with preaching Christianity, selling liquor and peddling drugs.

An airline cargo agent for the last six years, O'Connor currently shares a windowless cell with 16 other inmates at Riyadh's Al-Hair Prison. At least two of his cellmates have come to faith in Christ during his imprisonment and others have reportedly asked him to pray for them.

Usually winds around Plum Island would be blowing out and away from the east coast but coastal New England would be a concern. Of course sea birds could easily bring something back into the shoreline to the midatlantic states.

Last month in one of my nursing magazines, I read an article about a nurse from Illinois who was an EMT. She refused to transport a woman to an abortion clinic due to her Christian beliefs.

Davey, I have noticed that whatever we have here is also in Australia, it is as tho the terrorists use the same battle call for both.

Only thank God we don't seem to have as many muslims raping young girls in the U.S. as they do there. I had to quit following some of the stories, it made me wild.

A lot of Norovirus is used there, in Guest Houses and fancy resorts. Here we seem to get the same and on the cruise ships.

Plum Island is frightening. I hadn't heard about it at all until TM. At the time I looked up a few things and didn't like what I saw.

The lighthouse incidents (2 of them) were both around Pomham lighthouse in RI.
