Wow. I'm going to cut and paste that post! Actually, my wife and I have this dream of building what she lovingly refers to as a "Hobbit House." I have been enarmored of earth sheltered living for many years. We plan on building such a home for our retirement. It is 100% earthquake, fire, wind (even an F5 tornado) and even radiation proof within reason. Meaning ground zero won't cut it, but anything else will. Totally insect proof, and maintains a temperature of about 70 degrees despite the harshest winter or summer conditions. Monthly heating costs in a typical winter for a 4000 sq ft home would be about $40. And the bigger the home, the more thermally efficient it is. These homes can even be designed to be strictly "off the grid." We've got it pretty well figured out. After the Lord of the Rings trilogy she just loved the idea.

I saw a house like that for sale on the internet a while back. It had all the bells and whistles too(Solar power,Generator,Everykind of radio, bank vault door). Everything a survivalist could ever want. The only problem was that it was something like $750,000.

Here the Earth Bermed homes are unsaleable.
You are going to put a lot of money in it and never get it
out.
I did sell one that was poured concrete, huge and all underground except for the windows. I liked it. It was a dug out hole.
The 2 or 3 here are all in flood zones, why folks build them there I never understood.
Actually I sold it twice, once to a man who wanted the 40 acres and the day escrow closed, the house on 2 acres went to a young family for very little money. My investor did not do houses.
Yes, I read your books years ago, in fact only gave them to a man about 3 years ago, he could still work to make the dream come true.
