What Ironies, Reagan Fans

As someone who believes that life is full of unexpected big and little ironies that eventually catch up with the bad guys, the last few days have made me think.

What if the producers, writer, actors and others had given us a fair, honest, decent portrayal of the Reagans, emphasizing both politics and the their remarkable 53 year old ( at that time) love story? Recent events have shown they have many admirers. I believe the show would have done well initially with good ratings.

Now eight months later the death of Ronald Reagan would have given CBS the opportunity to show the drama again. This time the ratings would have soared.

The original proposal for the show envisioned a great romance that spanned decades, some vivid politcal moments and an honest portrayal of Reagan's Presidency

But it got hijacked by gay rights activists who blamed Reagan for all the AID's deaths, excusing what was going at the bathhouses and back rooms of gay bars.. It got stolen by left-wing actors who so hated the President and his supporters that they used the show as payback for their feelings. It got taken over by a playwright who really did not like the man and woman she was creating, guessing the publc would accept them as " the connivers of a decade."

Boy, were they wrong! The show was so thrashed for its dishonesty that it had to be relegated to a Showtime graveyard where it did miserably. It probaby terminated, or at least put on hold, the careers of many of the people who gave it to us.

An awful first showing with massive criticism that put CBS on the defensive brink.

The loss of a chance to possibly make televison ratings history this week with a repeat viewing.

Coincidently, the DVD version with all the lies, the distortions, the bad writing and lousy acting come out--this week. Such timing. Who will want it? Instead of a public rushing to Blockbusters to rent or buy it in honor of the Reagans,to have something else they can hold in memory, the disc's will gather dust, soon to be cycled to the stores Bargain Bin and rightfully forgotten.

God must love Ronald and Nancy Reagan. He made them beautiful and caring and used them to make things better. This week he made some adjustments and settled some scores as he welcomed President Reagan to eternal life with him.

I admire your optimism, but CBS will never change. I have a vision wherein I see the CBS organization as a smoking ruin with the vermin who control it digging their way out of those ruins and decrying the Presidency of Ronald Wilson Reagan as they do so.

CBS?? There is no salvation for them.
