I thought Patti's was a bit over the top on the "creepy" side...

Ok, Ron was a jerk by taking a jab at W, but Patti, OH MY, she has her father's gift for words. I was shocked! She did wonderful and made her father and Mrs. Reagan proud! Michael was wonderful as always!

I just didn't think it was necessary to say it

Me too. You KNOW the trolls are going to latch onto that one and make hay over it.

JimRob----Thank you. Thank you for Free Republic!

This is one of many times that we have been together to share an event, and I can't think of any others that I would want to be with, than my Freeper Friends, to witness the last public days of Ronald Reagan.

You've got a good site here! Try and keep it going, would'ja! LOL!

Sincere thanks!

I think it was the band first and then the rest of them followed.

My dog recently died (had to put her to sleep). I cried a little bit about that as I was watching them do it, but literally it lasted only a minute and I was pretty much 100 percent back to normal the very next day, heck, just a few hours later.

But, I have just been bawling like a little baby today, and I hardly ever cry. Somebody really close to me can die, and I will just suck it up and go.

But this has gotten to me. Thank heavens all the ceremonies are done...lol.

I wonder what Ronnie is thinking looking down on all of us...? :)

Did anybody know that John Kerry fought in Vietnam?

You're kidding! I hadn't heard that!

It takes a Kerry to burn a village.

In regards to your comments on General Jackman, he has been so tender with Mrs. Reagan.

Was he assigned to her, or did she select him?

I don't know if I'd call that a mean streak.....more like mischieviousness, justified anger, and lots of spunk!

"To the libs, if you happen to mention IN PASSING that you believe in God and go to a Christian denomination church, you are forcing religion down everyone's throats and wearing your religion on your sleeve."

Good observation.

For some inexplicable reason, oddball Ronnie Jr. went waay out of his way to ridicule ALL public officials who dare mention God. (Hello Dubya Bush)

I was left to wondering how Hitlery will handle that then her times comes

Stone faced and stone cold I'm sure. But let's not worry about her now.

"I didn't catch the swipe at W"

It was nothing. It could have been a reference to the differences between him and his brother. People are reading more into it.

You might be misconstrueing Ron's comments. President Bush doesn't wear his religion, his belief in the Lord our God, on his sleeve. His is a quiet humility, a firm belief in God, one he doesn't need to advertise. President Reagan didn't either. It was an articile of faith.

J. Kerry, however, makes much of his 'belief'. He makes sure there is a camera there when he leaves a church. This is what I believe Ron Reagan the Younger meant.

On a more private note, it was Ronald Wilson Reagan who convinced me that I needed to enlist in the US Army on my 17th birthday in 1987, to serve the nation that he led so ably, to fight the good fight. It was my great honor to call him my Commander-in-Chief for the first six months of my service to the nation that he made me so proud to serve. This is my greatest accomplishment in my life to date, other than marrying my wife of 12 years (Freeper AZLadyHawke, who retired from the US Army after 23 years in 2003).

God bless you, Mr. President. Godspeed, and may flights of angels sing you to your much deserved rest. You convinced a full 10% of my graduating class of 1988 to enlist in the US military, to fight the evil empire and make men free. We haven't seen the likes of you since Abe Lincoln, and aren't like to see again in our lifetimes. We thank you, Sir. Goodnight, and God bless.

I can't speak of the other branches. But the Army soldiers you saw today on both coasts were members of the 3rd U.S. Infantry....The Old Guard.

They are the guardians of the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier.

They also conduct all interments at Arlington.

And on sad days like today...they are charged with burying our great leaders.

If I remember correctly the other branches of service have cimiliar kinds of honor guards based in D.C. and they draw from them for these type of ceremonies.

I believe Jane Wyman went to the funeral... I think she was the woman who had to be helped up to the coffin... she appeared to be half blind.
