I may be wrong, but I get the impression that she's more highly regarded here than in her own country. At least when she left office she was pretty unpopular. Maybe that's changed.

"Lady Thatcher is now the sole survivor of a very personal alliance that remoulded the world."

Actually it was a triad that included Reagan, Thatcher, and the Pope. The three of them together played a role in the down fall of communism.

I hope that you Brits give her a fitting memorial when her time comes. I have my doubts. Former Prime Ministers don't get state funerals, do they?

I sort of hope that it happens in America, because I am sure we would give her the highest honor of being the first foreigner to lay in the Rotunda.

It depends...if we have either Blair or a Tory Prime Minister, I suspect that it will be a lavish affair, rather like Churchill in 1965.

If it's another Labour leader or worse, a Liberal Democrat one (unlikely, thank God) - then probably not.

Let's not forget that Lady Thatcher has probably left instructions as well.

Regards, Ivan

I wonder how long she will be staying in California? I have this feeling (just speculation) that she is staying at Arnold Schwarzenegger's mansion.

Vietnam's fall was a blow to Mr. Reagan, too. [Cross post from this duplicate thread] I'm thinking of Tony Blair now. He deserves our appreciation and support now just as President Reagan would later support Margaret Thatcher.

Dear Mrs. Thatcher April 30 [1975]

I've chosen a dark day to write
a belated thank you for being so generous
with your time on the occasion of our
recent visit. The news has just arrived
of Saigon's surrender and some how
the shadows seem to have lengthened.

You were very kind and I am
grateful. I hope you'll find it possible
to accept your California speaking invitations.
If you can Mrs. Reagan & I would
like very much to return your hospitality.
In the meantime, please know you
have an enthusiastic supporter out
here in the "colonies."

Again thanks & Best Regards

                 Ronald Reagan

Thanks for posting this photo of Lady Thatcher. She was a knock-out! She's the world's best and wisest lady.

She's the world's best and wisest lady.

Hard to argue with that statement.

She's the world's best and wisest lady.

Next to my mom, of course. (But point taken).

I need to find one of the Pope, Thatcher and Reagan - though I doubt it exists.

Ivan....I agree completely. The Remarkable Maggie.....the brand of steadfast courage that she and RWR displayed is so rare, so precious. History will continue to favo(u)rably reassess these giants.

BTW....it is wonderful to see you back in the forum....with the Union Jack in full glory.
