On June 14, 2004, the Kerry campaign held a fundraiser in Washington DC. Bill Clinton was be there as was Star Wars sequel princess, actress Natalie Portman. The required contribution was $50 to get in or $150, to a VIP reception with Ms. Portman.
I decided we could not let the attendees to have a one sided view of things, so I went down with my sign to state my point of view.
The freep was mostly uneventful except for a few points.
More that a few attendees were smiling, waving, and giving me the thumbs up sign. My guess is that these were Star Wars fans going to see Ms. Portman.
Considering the low admission fee, and having a former president, and a big name movie star, Attendance was a pathetic 300-400. This meant that they may have grossed $40,000. Dinner was supposed to be included so their net was much less that that.
Finally, no one disagreed with my sign. The only comments I got was "neither is bush" or "bush is worse".
I had a few sympathizers come by and chat with me.
One made a point that in Kerry's Vietnam photos, he is the only one wearing a dress uniform and medals while the real soldiers were wearing their regular uniforms. He continued by saying that in Vietnam, no one had dress uniforms due to the conditions and that he thought Kerry went there just to polish his resume for the future.
I have not looked at the Vietnam photos to confirm this, but someone else might take a look.
The second of the Star Wars sequels was a really really bad movie.

Good job! I thought Natalie Portman had enough brains to stay away from cads like our former Pres. I hope she survived her evening with him unmolested.
If you lie down with dogs...............
Any thoughts on this?
Congratulations, staytrue, awesome freep!
There are still SW fans in complete denial over this. Simply amazing.
I am a star wars fan and I liked the first 3 and the first sequel. The last was a dud. Maybe the 3rd sequel will be good.
Congrats.
The man is right and that is the first thing that my husband pointed out about the photos of Kerry and the swift boat crew. He said that the men would not even have their dress uniforms with them. There's no room for things you wouldn't use or wear. The pictures were pre-planned, he even brought his own super eight camera and re-staged the events so that he could be recorded in "battle".
Don't bet on it.The creative well dried up years ago...but the revenue has not.
Thank You Patriot!
Ms. Portman is proof that Harvard girls are not immune to Hollywood stupidity.
Some say that Empire is a better film (better effects, basics already laid down, more drama, etc.). It ends with several cliffhangers. It is an incomplete film (the first one can stand on its own).
If you watch Return of the Jedi, you are stuck with a subpar followup and the whole thing ends with those damn Ewoks (teddy bear marketing tool, I hear in part because there wasn't the budget for a planet of Wookies).
Then if you watch this new trilogy, you are stuck with the whole story ark being the story of young Hitler, er Darth Vader. We find him in the first film as being a slave who must win the race to "save the farm" or whatever they raced for in so many movies in the 1930s-1980s.
In the second film, he falls in love with a princess (how else would his daughter become Princess Leia?).
In the third film he goes over to the dark side.
I would be interesting in hearing what the final trilogy was supposed to deal with. That is the only story arch that could redeem the franchise in my mind. In absence of it, I will hold to just the first film.
This really surprises me. I thought I just read that Ms. Portman was a conservative??????
WELL DONE!
