I know this is a vanity and it will probably be pulled, but I'M MAD AS HELL AND I DON'T WANT TO TAKE IT ANYMORE! It's like it open season on Republicans and Conservatives on any kind of media and we can't respond and it's only going to get worse. Sometimes it's overt like Michael Moore, and other times it's subtle and that is far more dangerous.
I was watching the Country Music Television's Top 100 Love Songs. (Yes, you read correctly). You know these kinds of shows. They count down the top songs with celebrity comments. You'd think it would be pretty benign, wouldn't ya? Number 90 was Gene Autry's "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?" They had different people talk about the song when a woman who was identified as a Writer for Elle Magazine come up. She acted all furious that they put Gene Autry on the list, but not Roy Rogers, OK..harmless...she went on acting all upset for a few minutes then this...She looked into the camera and said: "Take Toby Keith off the list and put Roy Rogers in his place." Now, you may think I'm overreacting, after all, she's a writer for a Woman's Magazine. But this is CMT. They edited this program and it stayed in. This is a show solely there to promote Country Music. Have you ever heard a performer dissed on any kind of tribute show like this? It was obvious what it meant. To me, these subtle digs by a CORPORATION like CMT is the most dangerous of all.
Switch to decaf and Bach. :)
It's good to know that Toby is bugging them. :-)
NO...that's my point. We're so damn nice. I want the gloves off and us to start fighting back.
Toby Keith is a registered Democrat. Why get upset if someone disses him?
It doesn't matter what he's registered as. Unless you read that in TV Guide you would never have known that. His songs are unabashadly Pro-America.
And the minute I find which side of the fence an entertainer is on, that is when I decide if I want to continue supporting them. If they diss our President, then I will put them on my list to boycott them.
It's gotten way out of hand.
best thing to do is to become knowledgeable and be able to argue calmly and rationally... facts facts facts
That's what I think. They think they run this Country. I'm so sick of it. If we don't do something now, it's going to get worse and every show will be a platform for these idiot to talk about their issues and candidates.
cmt is owned by mtv. turn it off.
Toby Keith is also supporting Pres Bush and the War in Iraq. A lot of Oklahomans are still registered Democrats that support Republican candidates. This used to be a total Democrat state and the House and Senate are still Democrat controlled but hopefully not for long after November.
I understand the frustration of living among them.
Look, I'm not worried about educated people, their minds are made up either way and that's that. But kids have been brought up up with the cult of celebrity. I'm talking about the next generation and those who have never read a newspaper in their lives. You can huff and puff that it's insignificant, but when Snoop Dogg tells them he'll give them free tickets to a concert if they register and then feed them all the liberal crap, you should start feeling very afraid.
OK. Elle magazine. Liberal media. Dixie Chicks fan. Hollywood connections galore. What would you expect? And CMT, trying so hard to be fair and balanced. Believe me when I say that country music fans are decidedly pro-America and take this woman with a grain of salt. She just shot herself in the foot with those comments, IMO.
FAIR AND BALANCED???? During a tribute show??? Please. We are so nice that we cannot even face the facts that the media will do anything for the Dems to win this election.
If President Bush and his administration don't think media bias is a problem, why should Freepers care about it?
But then I remembered that the company that owns CMT also owns the Style Channel, E.,Travel Channel, Nick., MTV,VH1 and heaven only knows what else. So it's pretty much bye-bye Bob Wills and hello fashion editor from Elle.
(By the way, what was CMT's #1 romantic song?)
whatever
I don't know. I was so mad I turned it off. I TIVO'd it a few nights ago, so I can just skip over all the comemntary and hear the song. When I find out what #1 is I'll let you know. Any guesses?
"I was raised Democrat, but I vote for the best person for the position," Keith said. "I'm grateful that Bush is in there now. I'm grateful that we don't have Clinton or Gore or somebody at this time in our life."

My dear old Dad was a lifetime member of the Democrat party, and ALWAYS voted Republican. He said he registered Democrat to keep an eye on the enemy. LOL!
Heap coals of fire on their heads! Romans 12:20
I wish.
It's going to get a lot worse between now and November. And since Fox and the rest of the media skirt the truth about FnKerry, it's going to drive us all nuts.
We just have to pray for the best and keep faith that all will work out come November for us.
Thank you! I knew he said that but had absolutely no idea where to look. That is so great you found that quote!
LOL!! I love it! President Boren here at OU was a Democrat Governor, Senator, and counts among his best friends -- the Bush Family. In fact he serves as an advisor to President Bush on foreign security.
For instance, I read "Country Weekly" and they're still pushing the "Toby vs. Natalie" controversy on their subscription page (p. 73), using an old cover with Toby and Natalie pics to solicit new subscribers. If the controversy didn't generate new income, they wouldn't be doing it.
Roy Rogers was about 100 times better than the patriotic, but average, Toby Keith.
OMG! Don't tell me that BC..........really? If so, I'll never watch it again!
I'm with you.......Let's gooooooo
Toby Keith is a registered Democrat. Why get upset if someone disses him?
HEY !!! I resemble that remark !
I'm a registered Democrat too.
If I want to have a vote in my local city and county elections I have to be.
I tried registering as a Republican and saw that I was left out of having a say in the primaries (where most of the local stuff is decided) so now I am registered as a Dem and just vote spoiler in any of the national primaries.
Toby may have the same situation where he's from...if not, we need MORE democrats like him !
Goodness, get a grip, maybe Roy Rogers' romantic song writing is better than Keith? How does Keith's political position affect his ranking as a romantic song writer?
That's not the point.
Actually, he supports the war in Afghanistan and is iffy on the war in Iraq. Don't get me wrong, I am a hugh Toby Keith fan, but I don't think he's going to become a freeper anytime soon.
I saw a photo of Audi Murphy in his uniform. Not one inch of cloth was visible on the front of it. The uniform was COVERED with medals. What a guy!
What's a writer for Elle magazine doing on CMT anyway? That just doesn't compute...
Hildy, you're a good ole FReeper. Save your energy and anger for something that really matters. ;-)
No problem.
Here's another.
"KEITH: I was raised Democrat, but this Democrat today is not exactly the Democrat that -- it's not your daddy's Democrat. You know, it's -- the parties have changed. So I vote -- I vote more for the person instead of the -- instead of the party."

I should have supplied you with a quote: "I never one time have ever, anywhere, said anything about the Iraq war."- Toby Keith. That is from the CMT website in his interview after some award show recently.
I wish I could agree with you on this one. But as we're bombarded more and more by this, I can't help but feel overwhelmed and dispirited.
There are many democrats that are truely pro-American and good citizens, they are not liberals or leftist. They hold onto the old Democrat ways and many are only one step accross the aisle from being republican and I think many will vote that way come november.
"TOBY: No, and with everybody that fired out, I found out that the American people supported this thing by and large, the majority. Other people spoke out against it and then they came back and had to deal with the consequences of the American public. And then you heard them all go claiming their freedom of speech. But all freedom of speech gives you is the right to say what you want to at your government executing you, if you get down to it--that's really all freedom of speech is. It doesn't come with consequences or repercussions about whether somebody's gonna buy your album or your book or read your newspaper column or whatever. I'm not a banger of the war drum and I didn't support that actual war that went on in Iraq, and I don't know the math, but I trust that I'm smart enough to know that I'm not as smart as Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell and Bush, and I've got to allow them to do their job. In the end I'll decide whether I was for this war or not; I was for Afghanistan. But I am for our troops, 'cause they have no choice--they have to go do their job, and what I say is once the war starts, whether you're anti or pro, give it up and let's support our troops, help our people get back."

Same with vh-1 and nickelodeon, sorry.
I was pro Toby until the awards show last month were at the end he decided to say "hey, lets all go get drunk" instead of something for the troops.
Yes Toby, I know you may feel supporting the troops is getting old, but they are still over there. A small mention was expected.
"His songs are unabashadly Pro-America."
How can that be possible? I thought all DummyCrats were anti-American scumbag terrorist-lovers?
My brain's overloading from this connundrum.
"That's not the point."
Actually, on a show devoted to the Top 100 Romantic Love Songs, that's EXACTLY the point. Roy Rogers is superior to Toby Keith in this muscial genre.
Thanks Hildy....it won't be on anymore. I watch it rarely, but still, I won't knowingly watch something remotely related to MTV. BC also said Nickelodeon is owned by the same companies. Glad my grandkids are too old for that now.
He's also superior to probably about 65% of everybody on that list. She pointed out Keith, and that's intentional.
Agree. These "kids" are old enough to vote, even if they're not old enough to "know better" how to make a wise decision.
Then you have the folks who are plenty "old enough" who never will know how to make a wise decision...if a Hollywood star says "vote for so-and-so", well, they should know, right? After all, they're a Hollywood star, aren't they? sheesh...and yes, what to do?!
