June 18, 2004 -- Pvt. Jessica Lynch — the POW who won over the nation with her gutsy spirit — had a heartwarming meeting with President Bush yesterday. Using a metal cane to help her walk, Jessica hobbled into the Oval Office to shake hands and chat with the commander-in-chief.

The two shared a few laughs along with Jessica's friend Alyssa Gregg, who came along.

They also talked about the charitable foundation Lynch set up to help kids separated from their parents during military deployments.

Jessica Lynch should have been court martialed, not made the "hero".

she was broken to bits from the vehicle wreck

her being mistakenly lionized doesn't reduce the heroism of her comrades, but you advocating a court martial for her degrades the uscmj and free republic

unless I'm grossly mistaken, the accident occured after the firefight had begun, and by her own words she just "put her head between her legs" because she was so scared.

if I'm wrong, I apologize, but that is the account I've heard.

That's ok. Honestly expecting more from her under those circumstances would be asking alot.

At times, I get the impression that these women fighting in the field are like Demi Moore in GI Jane. When in fact it is some 20 year old girl, still trying to figure out why she chose this instead of going to school or working in the local Circle K and dating her high school sweet heart.

I know it sounds sexist but I just don't believe women belong out there.

Jessica Lynch is NO hero. All she did was get captured after she paraded around like a whore. It's the men that rescued her that are the heroes.

Oops I forgot. She's a female, raped and beaten and men aren't so she deserves to be singled out. LOL! Men aren't important.

Oops, I forgot again. We aren't supposed to acknowledge that women are raped in war.

Like you, I was somewhat annoyed at the adulation of Lynch, but I've come to think that she really shouldn't have been put in combat at all. This women in combat thing is a really dumb idea.

Anyway, I wish her well.

Although I think I know what you're trying to say, your inability to use language makes you sound like a total lunatic.

"Jessica Lynch is NO hero."

Jessica Lynch is not a hero in the classic sense, but she didn't bring shame like Lyndie England.

The unit armorer is the one that should have been disciplined. Hers and several others weapon jammed that day.

Couldn't let this go. At the time that Jessica Lynch was rescued every "major" news outlet was prattling on endlessly about what a "quagmire" we had gotten ourselves into, proudly and santimoniously posting every obstacle and casualty with glee. We needed a bright moment and she was lucky enough to be it. I hoped she hit the lottery when I first heard about her ordeal and I still hope so now. First because the difficulty that she went through allowed me not to hear the word"quagmire" for a day or so, but mostly because ALL OF THESE KIDS ARE HEROES! ALL OF THEM VOLUNTEERED! FROM THE REAR ESCHELON TO THE FRONT LINES THEY ARE ALL HEROES!

Perhaps this is the kind of work Jessica Lynch should have been involved with in the first place.

Before you make such disgusting accusations you should make yourself aware of the facts, so you don't look like such a fool.

Jessica was riding the transmission hump in the back of a Humvee between two soldiers. Her weapon was in operative. Had her weapon been operative she was still not in a position to fire. Her subsequent actions and the testimonials of soldiers who served with her during her military career indicate that she was a gutsy, get it done soldier. She was unfortunately placed in a helpless position. Her response does not indicate an unwillingness to fight, it was as much a response to an inability to take action.

That young lady will be severly crippled for the rest of her life because she was over there serving to protect your freedom. Why don't you just say a simple "thank you" and then shut up!

The unit armorer is the one that should have been disciplined. Hers and several others weapon jammed that day.

How the hell can anyone reasonably infer that the jamming of several weapons during combat is the fault of the armorer?

Most likely it is the fault of the user due to a failure to clean the weapon on a regular basis.

Now, if I recall, this was a unit that usually was not directly involved in ground combat, therefore it can be assumed that someone, somewhere, in a leadership capacity did not check the weapons of the soldiers prior to going out on this mission.

But to lay it on the unit armorer is ludicrous.

And, furthermore, just to stir the feminazi pot a little more, I'll go so far as to say that perhaps some of the female soldiers were more concerned with the state of their fingernails than they were with the state of their weapon.

And for any that wish to attack that, just let me say that during my short time associated with the military, I found many, many weapons that were not cleaned and lubed correctly, a situation that is deadly in a hot environment, whether it be sand or jungle.

There may even be an old soldier or two out there that remembers a painful lesson or two, taught from the first time he was fired at and the awful, horrible realization of the jammed round "stovepiped" out the side of that M-16, usually caused by the failure of the owner to properly clean it after the last 3 or 4 hundred round H & I.

Regardless of the reasons, I never once blamed it on the armorer.

The only fault I found with my armorer in a combat condition was his inability to fix the extractor on my (stolen/borrowed) M-14.

I forgave him after he "stole" another M-14 from a REMF unit, just to get me a new bolt and extractor.

But I digress.

Let us take nothing away from young PFC Lynch, regardless of the fact that she should not have been there in the first place.

The fact remains that she was, and in my opinion, she comported herself well under the circumstances.

And we should leave it at that.
