Ronald Reagan's son harshly criticized the Bush White House for invoking religion and his father's name to justify the Iraq war and scoffed, "They're no Ronald Reagans."Ron Reagan, the late President's son, unloaded on President Bush and his advisers to NBC's Chris Matthews in an interview that aired last night on "Dateline."
Reagan was asked about the ambiguous comments he made at his father's funeral, criticizing politicians who wear their faith on their sleeves.
"What I find interesting about it is that everybody assumes that I must be talking about George W. Bush, which I find fascinating and somewhat telling. If the shoe fits . . .," Reagan said.
"I think he's used religion to make his case for - for a lot of things, including Iraq," he said later.
Reagan said he also resented White House efforts to draw parallels between Reagan and Bush.
"I would observe that my father never felt the need to wrap himself in anybody else's mantle. He never felt the need to pretend to be anybody else. . . .
"This is their administration. This is their war. If they can't stand on their own two feet, well, they're no Ronald .Reagans, that's for sure," he fumed.
Reagan lashed out at Bush's refusal to expand the use of embryonic cell research.
"For the federal government, for this administration, to stand in its way just to pander to people who, well-meaning as they may be, are, I think, ignorant of the facts, is just unconscionable to me," he said.
"There's no downside to this. There's no real moral problem here. We're talking about cells in a petri dish, not creatures with brains and spinal cords and fingers and toes."
White House spokeswoman Jeanie Mamo avoided a confrontation, saying, "The President was honored to be asked to give the eulogy at President Reagan's funeral last week and his thoughts and prayers remain with Mrs. .Reagan and the family."
On stem cell research, she said Bush "continues to believe strongly that we should not cross a fundamental moral line by funding or encouraging the destruction of human embryos."

Unlike this son, who wouldn't be asked the time of day if not for his name.
Regardless of that name, this person is no Ronald Reagan either.
I saw an interview with a presidential historian who said there's a possibility of real jealousy here: Ron "Jr" is the son of a president whose claim to fame is prancing around in his underwear on Sat Nite Live; Dubya is the son of a president who became a president too.
This weird, glib, dork is no Ronald Reagan either.
The fool must think he has an immunity shield due to his father and his father's passing. He is wrong.
He has killed his political career. The dems are dying and he is a perfect example of why.
Chris Matthews, a liberal flunky, pulls the strings and Ron Reagan, the late President's son, dances around on our TV screen.
No surprises here.
"I think he's used religion to make his case for - for a lot of things, including Iraq,"
Next time a liberal says something like this about the president, ask them for a quote. Ask them to tell you one time the president has used religion to make his case. Then be ready for silence.
You could also do the same for questioning someone's patriotism or blaming Saddam Hussein for 9-11.
Regarding my opinion in the other thread, I was wrong and am sorry for being so mistaken.
Well, at least this loser will have a job until Nov. being interviewed by all the Bush-haters in the media. I'm comforted that the only Reagan children in the next generation belong to Michael. Thank God Ronald Reagan adopted him!

Shame on this man for dishonoring his father's memory this way.
Those cells are human beings, with the appropriate features for that stage of development. We were all the same, except that we were not quite as vulnerable to the malignant intentions of those who deliberately created us in vulnerability.
I pray that Mr. Reagan will realize how ignorant *he* is and come back to the public arena to set the record straight.
Take a look at this political cartoon from the San Antonio Express News
javascript: showCartoon('http://images.mysanantonio.com/opinion/cartoons/nacho/large/2004_06_15_nacho.jpg', 288, 864);
look where Ron Reagan is now,, a son of a President of the United States,, relegated to embarrass his father as he lay in his casket and watching his last 10 seconds of fame slip away to oblivion,, vs a son of a President of the United States who is now President of the United States,, kind of smells like jealously to me,, what a turd,,,
Sounds like something Reagan would have said.
Whereas what Ron Reagan is doing is nothing like what his father would have done.
Pity none of Ronald Reagan's character rubbed off on his son.
Goodmorning kat!
"little ronnie" is showing how "little" he truly is.
I remember hearing someone that was close to RR (and worked in the Whitehouse during his administration) once say, "His son Ron has been one of his largest disappointments". Now I think that just about "says it all"!
LLS
I could only hope someone as narrowed minded as Little Ronnie could see the parallelisms. Still, my hopes will never be fulfilled with the likes of him prancing around in his underwear.
It still disturbs me though that Nancy is advocating the use of embryonic stem cells when adult stem cells continue to be available. Does she really believe only aborted lives can regenerate adult beings? Maybe Nancy should look at this cartoon as well!
RON JR. = RRINO
(Ronald Reagan in Name Only)
This person is no Michael Reagan either!
Non-Junior Ron's a wannabe something with no claim to fame other than he's an insult to his father's memory. Ron now officially disgusts me!
I saw an interview with a presidential historian who said there's a possibility of real jealousy here: Ron "Jr" is the son of a president whose claim to fame is prancing around in his underwear on Sat Nite Live; Dubya is the son of a president who became a president too.
And the worst of it (or maybe the best of it, depending on your perspective) is that Ron knows he couldn't have gotten even the SNL gig if ''daddy'' had not been president.
Yes, and as I recall, his daughter Patti is even more liberal. Thank goodness for Michael.
