Ron Jr. hits Bush team
New York Daily News ^ | 6/19/04 | MONIQUE EL-FAIZY

Ronald Reagan's son harshly criticized the Bush White House for invoking religion and his father's name to justify the Iraq war and scoffed, "They're no Ronald Reagans."

Ron Reagan, the late President's son, unloaded on President Bush and his advisers to NBC's Chris Matthews in an interview that aired last night on "Dateline."

Reagan was asked about the ambiguous comments he made at his father's funeral, criticizing politicians who wear their faith on their sleeves.

"What I find interesting about it is that everybody assumes that I must be talking about George W. Bush, which I find fascinating and somewhat telling. If the shoe fits . . .," Reagan said.

"I think he's used religion to make his case for - for a lot of things, including Iraq," he said later.

Reagan said he also resented White House efforts to draw parallels between Reagan and Bush.

"I would observe that my father never felt the need to wrap himself in anybody else's mantle. He never felt the need to pretend to be anybody else. . . .

"This is their administration. This is their war. If they can't stand on their own two feet, well, they're no Ronald .Reagans, that's for sure," he fumed.

Reagan lashed out at Bush's refusal to expand the use of embryonic cell research.

"For the federal government, for this administration, to stand in its way just to pander to people who, well-meaning as they may be, are, I think, ignorant of the facts, is just unconscionable to me," he said.

"There's no downside to this. There's no real moral problem here. We're talking about cells in a petri dish, not creatures with brains and spinal cords and fingers and toes."

White House spokeswoman Jeanie Mamo avoided a confrontation, saying, "The President was honored to be asked to give the eulogy at President Reagan's funeral last week and his thoughts and prayers remain with Mrs. .Reagan and the family."

On stem cell research, she said Bush "continues to believe strongly that we should not cross a fundamental moral line by funding or encouraging the destruction of human embryos."

Ron Reagan...
He's just an embarassment to himself.
And proof that Ronald Reagan did believe in allowing people freedom.
Even to be idiots.

Don't count on Nancy to be supportive of Bush in any way. She was on TV a month ago pushing the need for stem cell research. I look for her to be a thorn in this administration. In full disclosue, I never thought much of her anyway. I know she was very unkind to Barbara Bush. THe GHW Bushes are too polite and thoughtful to ever say anything unkind about Nancy.

I did not like the way that Nancy would not make eye contact with Michael on every attempt he made to hug her and tell her that he loved her, during the entire week of mourning.

The real Nancy will cone out now.

Do not dare put the Bush twins in that group of embarrassing Presidential relatives. Your list includes a known criminal, a philanderer, a troubled twenty-something and a drunk.

The Bush twims acted like teenagers in 2000-2002. You know why? Because they were. However, they both graduated college in 4 years and now are going to help their Dad get re-elected before carrying on with their lives.

Chelesea spent 8 years traveling the world on our nickel. The Bush twins went to a few partys. Big deal.

You're exactly RIGHT- I listen carefully when Bush speaks. His references to God are no more or less than most presidents, and I'm unable to recall a time when the press jumped on something he said as being "too religious" (and you know they would if he did).

Furthermore- I hear so much talk about how uncivilized and nasty his administration is- all the division talk- and again- I can't recall a time when he spoke a mean word about an opponent. More often he'll use humor to make a point- even then it's not mean-spirited.

I started to say that no woman alive could work enough magic to make me want to sleep with a man but then I started to think about one I know and started laughing. If anyone could do the trick that one could.

I didn't watch the interview and have no intention of ever watching Ron Reagan do or say anything. Unlike his father, Ron Reagan is a liberal. But you knew that. When the son spoke at Reagan's funeral, I muted the sound.

If Ronald Reagan was around today, I believe he would fully support PresBush`s efforts in the WoT. And Bush didn't tie Reagan's name with religion to justify the conflict in Iraq. I'd say 17 UN resolutions over a 12 year period was the deciding factor. Along with an event known as, 9-11.

You know Michael Reagan has potential...

Perhaps he can start as governor or a senator.

He would get votes AND dollars AND he already HAS respect.

Regardless of the man's politics, he made a good point here that I must agree with. The constant comparisons from the moment the man died was nothing short of trailer park politics.

Tinkerbell's great father died, and he's using it to get face time on tv. It will die down. He has nothing to offer to anyone. He's a non-achiever.

I believe you are right....he will make all the liberal news outlets, (think blather, and potatohead) and then he will slither back to where he came from....

Except for the fact that msnbc has hired him for his "expert" election analysis....lol....when we all know he's there to bash Bush and the conservatives....the liberal media is so blatant in it's effort to elect skerry, most people are seeing right through their crapola.

"We're talking about cells in a petri dish, not creatures with brains and spinal cords and fingers and toes." That LIFE in the petri dish is an individual ORGANISM, not merely a glob of cells ... and where have we been fed that same line 'glob of cells' when trying to dissemble the killing of innocent younger humans?

I wonder if this boy, Ron, would open his heart and mind long enough to get the deeper scoop on these 'things in a petri dish'? Orrin Hatch and Senator Frist would not when I've written to them, but I do wonder if some of President Reagan's character could be buried deep inside this boy, Ron.

These embryos (whole organisms, not merely cell masses) in petri dishes (at in vitro fert clinics, is obviously to which he was referring for stem cell extraction) have the LIFE of the individual who will, with life support at various stages/ages in their individual lifetime, go through all the organs and aging, etc that Ron is so quick to dismiss as not being present at their earliest age in their lifetime already begun. Those stem cells in the embryo sequestered in a petri dish ARE THE BODY PARTS OF THE HUMAN BEING AT HIS OR HER EARLIEST AGE. The LIFE in those stem cells IS THE INDIVIDUAL CONCEIVED, BROUGHT INTO EXISTENCE! And the same individual LIFE will continue to be found in that individual throughout their lifetime, circulating in the blood as progenitor stem cells which regenerate tissues and organs throughout the lifetime once they have done their job of fabricating the body in which THAT INDIVIDUAL HUMAN LIFE resides in the air world.

Before there is a recognizable body with the attributes Ron wants to be the only measure of that LIFE for he or she to be characterized as human being, those earliest embryo stem cells build the first organ the LIFE OF THE INDIVIDUAL HUMAN BEING will require for life support during the time in the water world prior to birth to the air world ... the placenta is built by the newly conceived individual LIFE for life support in the womb, and the task to build that placenta and umbilicus begins with the first onset of cell division, the first expressions of THE INDIVIDUAL LIFE AS FOUND IN THE EARLIEST STEM CELLS AND ALL THROUGHOUT A LIFETIME OF MORE STEM CELLS, for the LIFE of the individual human being is in the blood throughout their lifetime, in the stem cells whose precursor stem cells expressed the new LIFE and continue to express the new LIFE. To kill an embryo, even fresh from an in vitro fertilization freezer, just to rip out the embryonic stem cells, is to KILL THE LIFE OF THE INDIVIDUAL PRESENTLY EXPRESSED IN THOSE STEM CELLS.

One final note: by researching on multipotent adult progenitor cells found in abundance in the adult body and in the placenta and cord blood, science will discover how the differentiation process works, and without killing another individual for their LIFE found in their embryonic stem cells. It is not cannibalism to use tissue from your own body to treat a malady you may have [Adult stem cell therapies]. IT IS CANNIBALISM to take the LIFE of another individual human being in order to treat an older individual human being [Embryonic stem cell research and cloning applications].
