And of course the speed with which The Saudi government dispatched Nick Berg's abductors/murderers may be weighing on their minds as well.

I think you're right. As long as we hang firm and not give into these beheading terrorists, I think they're going to stop this. And try to figure out a more effective way to get what they want. It's why the action of the Spanish government earlier has been so costly... They're like children. If tantrams don't work, they stop.

OK, so take back the 22 civilians and send in more troops. Lots more.

Here's a couple of quotes I've posted on similar threads:

I think someone filled these captors in on the consequences that would be paid if this Korean guy were executed. Anyone who served with the South Koreans in the Vietnam War will tell you that they don't f#%& around like Americans, Spanish, etc. do in situations like this.

. . .

These terrorists are probably wishing right now that they hadn't abducted this guy. I saw a news clip a couple of years ago of a student demonstration in South Korea that turned violent, and I must admit that I was thoroughly impressed with what I saw. Several thousand students were met with a force of 15,000 military/police personnel, and close-up shots of the resulting melee made the Rodney King incident look like a therapy session on a psychiatrist's couch.

It appears Jordan is involved now too.

I've heard from a few Viet Nam vets that the ROK Marines were greatly feared by the Viet Cong and NVA. Seems they are not the least bit queasy about leaving a "message" indicating that they are not to be messed with.

Maybe the "tangos" got wind that S. Korea may just send some ROK Marines over to Iraq for a little refresher training.

Best Regards

Sergio

Perhaps the "six strong task force" this article speaks of were ROK Marines.

I wonder if you could give away info by saying it every other word? Do they understand English or do they just know what English sounds like?

Wouldn't that be Paul Johnson's murderers that were dealt with by the Saudis? Nick Berg was kidnapped/murdered in Iraq by Zarqarwi, and he is still operating in Iraq.

The Korean was a contract worker - the Japanese were activists that went to Iraq uninvited. Ignorance is not bliss. Maybe they should kill him to prove it to you?

I'm just wondering why they didn't kill him. You have a better explanation?

I don't think like a Muslim beheader so I can't tell you why beyond the guess that these Muslims are terrorists and maybe a prolonging of the beheading prolongs the agony and the terror?

I work with two Iraqi expats (Assyrian Christians), so I just asked them about the English fluency of the average Iraqi. One of them, raised in Baghdad, told me that she took three years of English as part of her regular public school education, and that most Iraqi's have at least a year or two of schooling in it. Students planning on going into the oil industry or engineering disciplines may have five or six years of English schooling.

My guess would be that at least one of the terrorists is a proficient English speaker.

I don't have any details, but if you check out these threads you might see a post from someone who served in Vietnam and had contacts with the South Korean troops (the Tiger Division, I think they were called) over there. Apparently they were feared for their brutality by the Viet Cong, and were renowned for their ability to extract information from prisoners.
