About 300 Chechen gunmen have penetrated into Iraqi territory to fight against the Western coalition forces, a source in the Italian intelligence services was quoted by news site ANSA.it as saying.

The Italian military contingent deployed in the area of Al-Nasiriyah may be one of the main targets of the Chechen gunmen, Itar-Tass, citing the Italian news agency, reported.

According to the Italian intelligence source, the Chechens have been in touch with the local extremists fighting near the residential area of Suk al-Shuyuk.

The head of the Italian Army’s General Staff, General Giulio Fraticelli, who heads the Italian Army’s General Staff in Al-Nasiriyah, was quoted as saying Sunday that the information on the Chechen gunmen had been confirmed.

An inquiry into the possible dispersal of the enemy in the territory is underway, the general said.

That is why I think the bloody Chechen raids in Russia and the "insurgent" raids in Iraq of this week were part of an al-Qaeda offensive with the same type of targets and results.

I would hope that as a variety of outside riff raff comes in Iraq to challenge us that their rapid dispatch to the next world would cool their willingness to engage us. I suspect there are a lot of really surprised insurgents who thought by now we would have cut and run. I am not convinced that, as a whole, the terrorist organization(s) are capable of much critical thinking or strategic planning. Face it, WE are the ones who made 9/11 possible, by dismantling our intelligence community and getting very complacent. If we had had any sort of intel capabilities and/or airline security system they could not have pulled it off. The will no doubt change tactics as the situation changes, but it's going to be harder and harder for them to find fighters who will engage us. I know that a lot of them are just dying to get into their version paradise, but the surer their chances are of dying, the less ardor they will have for it!

You take typical American view of history...to the end of your nose. Islam look at history in hundreds of years (as is most of the world).
