Berg calls US Iraqi handover a 'sham'
News24

London - The father of a US civilian beheaded in Iraq dismissed as an illusion trick the handover of power to an Iraqi interim administration as he joined anti-war campaigners on a visit to London to Tuesday.

"This transfer of power is nothing more than another nut and shell game of the Bush and Blair coalition" Michael Berg, 59, said of Monday's surprise handover two days earlier than planned.

"We know that the Iraqi people have not had an election yet and so we do not have a democracy over there, we just have a dictatorship of Bush and Blair," he said at a press conference for the Stop The War Coalition, in London.

Berg's son, Nick, 26, who ran his own communications business, was murdered by Iraqi insurgents last month, after being kidnapped in Baghdad.

Three days after his headless body was discovered, a video tape of the execution was posted on a website linked to al-Qaeda, leading to worldwide condemnation.

Berg, wearing a T-shirt inscribed with the name of an anti-war website (VoteNoWar.org), will join British anti-war demonstrators outside the Houses of Parliament later on Tuesday to demand coalition troops come home.

"Bush told us we had to go to war because Iraq played a part in the destruction of the twin towers, because Saddam Hussein had WMD (weapons of mass destruction), because there were connections between him and al-Qaeda", he said.

All that was false, "it was just greed," he said.

The removal of Saddam's regime had not brought stability to Iraq and "11 000 plus Iraqi citizens have been killed," Berg said. "Each one of them is as affected as I was."

I cannot understand how these people can forget what Saddam Hussein was when he was in power under Bill Clintons' administration. He was a bad guy THEN and everybody agreed THEN that Bush '41 made a MISTAKE by not getting him out of power.
What is their stinking problem? Can people really be THAT dumb?!?!

You would think that this man would be grieving over the loss of his son.

What and give up his 15 minutes of FAME?

"Don't forget, the organizations wanted the sanctions lifted because they claimed that over ONE MILLION people had been killed by the sanctions. So, again, using THEIR NUMBERS, the liberation of Iraq, even with all of those killed has SAVED at least one hundred thousand lives."

I've made this point myself, and it needs to be repeated: before the war, the left was saying that sanctions were killing 5,000 Iraqis a month. Now, either they were lying, or the war has already - using their own figures - saved at least 50,000 lives.

We all gave this guy a pass when he found out his son had been murdered by terrorists.

That pass has expired.

Paging Mr. Berg - Your fifteen minutes of fame are up

Okay, if we are going to launch wild-eyed conspiracy theories, let me launch one of my own:

Michael Berg is so anti-Iraq war that he actively worked with insurgent terrorists to set his son up. Then when his son was seized and beheaded, he had more limelight to express his anti-American Ûber-Liberal views.

Disclaimer: This is a wild-eyed conspiracy theory intended to demonstrate absurdity by being absurd.

Bush is in a high stakes game of Texas Hold Em. He has been dealt Big Slick (Ace, King). Not a sure winner, but a big advantage hand. Bush flopped a straight draw, but the Turn and River can do him in.

There was a time in America when decorum and loyalty to ones country and loved ones did not take a bath on the front page of media all over the world. In memory of his son, Michael Berg is being used by the enemy to give aid and comfort to those who would see Saddam back on his throne – and a whole nation, Iraq still under the oppression of the father of beheadings. Mr. Berg is wrong on all counts but then he is just parroting what he is told to say and that is the pity of it all. He is shaming his son, not honoring the man.

What a telling comment. The egotist equates his situation with that of the dead. The dead Iraqis are as affected as your SON, Mr. Berg. Only an arrogant blowhard would put his own pain on the same level of the people who actually did suffer physical pain and death.

The far left has always said we are worse than Saddam; the liberal left said that Saddam was evil when Clinton was president, but now both the far left and liberal left are trying to transform Saddam into Mr. Rogers.

No. Completely wrong.

Mr. Berg is a willing and active participant who supports and encourages the enemy.

This guy is nothing, but trouble. He wouldn't even address the Abu guys that had their hands cut off by Saddam or any of us counter-protesters at Rummy's house.

Berg spouts out all kinds of BS, and pretends to know what he is talking about, but when faced with REALITY he RUNS AWAY! I can't believe his wife has not beaten him to the ground yet, but I feel sure one day she will see the light.

Perhaps it might be better not to post the rantings of a lunatic. I really resent having to sort out my emotions over the "evil" done to the child, and the "evil" that spews forth out of this twit.
