DETROIT (AP) -- Kmart will sell up to 54 of its stores to Sears, Roebuck and Co. for a maximum of $621 million, the retailer said Wednesday... The announcement came less than a month after Troy-based Kmart announced it was selling up to 24 stores to Home Depot for as much as $365 million.

And Sears will do what, with them? Open stores just as passe' as K-Mart? I've given up shopping at Sears long ago - the quality and value just isn't there, anymore (and the service left a lot to be desired, too!)

Years ago I loved Sears. The sales people were professionals that really knew their products and took time explaining them and making sure that it was what was best for you. The sales people stayed for years, loved their jobs and company and it showed. That all changed and you are right the company is just not the same.
This is true for everything except their appliances, which, in my personal experience, have been outstanding.
We thought so too. So we bought a microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, washer and dryer from them. Every one of them has been cheapened down to junk status. Plastic parts are constantly breaking with mild use (we're very easy on appliances) and replacement parts don't fit. Something is *always* breaking and Sears' service is very expensive. They put as much effort into selling service contracts as the appliances themselves. That tells me they don't trust their own products and expect to have to repair them. I urge others to do some careful comparison shopping.
The only things I purchase from Sears are hand tools and lawn & garden equipment (mower, weed wacker, etc). Easy to find parts and supplies for, and the quality has been excellent.

Sears used to be cool. They had everything including the aroma of roasted cashews. Not anymore. I was at the Fairlane Mall outside Detroit recently and Sears had its entire second floor roped off.
Interesting... my Kenmore refrigerator is 1-2 years old-- no problem. My Kenmore dishwasher is 3-4 years old-- no problems. My Kenmore front-loading clothes washer rates "excellent" as far as I'm concerned. The Kenmore dryer (5-6 years old) has never needed a repair. I've been pleased with Kenmore for 30 years. Wouldn't buy anything else for home appliances.
I have a Kmart down the street from me, mighty handy. Prices are better than WallyWorld, too, though with far less selection. Walmart is a bit further away, and the employees there act like they are from sort of mandatory half-way house program.
At the closest KMart to me (Tolleson,AZ) if you would yell "La Migra" the store would empty out!
Neither would I at this point. Time to sell it. Kmart Holding is up from 25 to 75 in the last year. Buy low, sell high.
