Hi JP Thanks for starting this thread.
WCG, I think it was you who posted about the Orcas:
"Killer whale researchers are wondering what has happened to about 30 Puget Sound orcas that have not returned from their winter travels. They normally appear in the San Juan Islands in early June."
The first thought I had was about the seismic activity noted off the mid coast shoreline and inland in southern California. Animals are well known to give heads up on quakes and other geologic phenomena especially in changing migration patterns.
I wish we could poll folks living up this way on whether they're noticing anything different in wildlife or domestic behavior. There were reports last year that we were using dolphins in hunting down terrorists in the waters up that way. Does anyone known if that is still ongoing?
It is also possible that some sort of protective naval operation using underwater sound spectrums(echolocation) is disrupting the migration.

The seismic activity was my first thought, too.
Puget Sound is at least as hazardous as San Fran and LA.

RE: Orcas/Puget Sound
On the local (I'm in Washington) news last night they mentioned the Orcas. The marine biologists speculation was the large ocean salmon runs and the Orcas are just out feasting.
I've just gotten home and online so haven't checked for any news reports on this to post (sorry). It is plausible and the salmon runs have been increasing. But, you are correct, Puget Sound is also a major earthquake waiting to happen (IMO). I'm always very nervous when I'm up there and dang if there isn't always a minor trembler when I'm there :-).
