Election 2004, what is an evangelical to do? To put it bluntly and ever so kindly, just shut up!

Election 2004, what is an evangelical to do? To put it bluntly and ever so kindly, just shut up!

During the past several weeks, numerous articles describing why or why not evangelicals will or will not, should or should not influence the outcome of this year’s presidential election have come to the forefront. Most recent tells that approximately 70 to 80% of evangelicals that associates or lean towards GOP need to be cautious, warning Christian moral standards and political morals may be confused or undermined. Apparent in “advocates of separation” the National Association of Evangelicals, writings and actions show an uncomfortable or distasteful inference directed towards the ties that bind the two groups.

Simultaneously, recently formed, grassroots organization “Let Freedom Ring, Inc.” is also getting press. According to information given regarding the group, its purpose is to promote a positive, conservative political agenda, reaching out to patriotic Americans and especially people of faith to prevent a turn off by the negative of the political process and to counter the George Soros and Anti-Bush 527s.

Now the dilemma, just what is an evangelical person to do? “Ordinary” tolerant citizens, no problem, they are permitted to go with the party that aligns with their “open” convictions. Teachers, union members, and individuals of African decent, simply go with the political party your leaders insist is doing the job. However, an evangelical, that is animal by a different stripe. What possible reason should one-of-faith look to a party that best represents their values? Why should they be encouraged to become active in the political process? For some reason the thought of giving all equal opportunity to express, support and fight for what one believes in, just does not compute with certain mindset when it comes to the evangelical.

With barrage of arguments, dealing with Separation of Church and State in public arena placed or soon placed before courts, most certainly evangelical will or have felt impact of decisions. Should that be reason enough to hear their voice? Knowing Democrats have denied judgeships to individuals simply because of their perceived Christian faith, would that prejudicial action allow evangelicals opportunity to express their disgust without censor? What happens to the vast majority of evangelical when they see facts such as President Bush backing laws banning partial-birth abortion; restricting stem-cell research and declaring a readiness to pass a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and understand actions meet with their values? Perhaps, it would be best for evangelicals to support the other party and presidential candidate in hopes that they too will someday come their way.

With about a quarter of the American electorate white, evangelical voters, representing the single most powerful voting bloc today, supporting conservative thought and appearing as engaged to bring out the vote as it was for President Ronald Reagan’s elections, just what is to be done?

Our nation’s lefties can insist people of faith really need to be very careful with politics. They can maintain John F. Kerry’s 19 years of liberal votes exists only in one’s imagination. This bunch from the left could pull another DWI rabbit out of hat in last days of election in hopes of a suppressed vote, or encourage their media buddies to lie or distort, as their left leader former president Clinton suggest, “because they can.” Finally, they could just hope that evangelicals simply shut up and go away.

Although downplayed, faith appears to have a great place to play in this year’s election. Let us hope that evangelicals are neither intimidated, nor persuaded to sit this one out. Checking out the organization such as, Let Freedom Ring, Inc. might be a great place to get started. Evangelicals need to realize as never before that silence this time around is not an option.

What a STUPID answer!

If a honest legal citizen of the United State of America needs to be told to shut up for a candidate to win --- then that candidate deserves no more than to lose.

So to the author of this I say:

One man says to a second man: "Do you believe in the First Amendment freedom of speech?"
The second man says: "Of course I do."
The first man then asks: "Do you believe in the Second Amendment freedom to bear arms?"
The second man replies: "No, I don't."
The first man insists: "Then shut up!"

The moral of the story is: you can have your rights, but you have to protect and defend them, too.

Sorry. I'll have no part of a conservative group that is for "whites" only.

Subtly racist vanity/article.

More evangelicals voting is a good thing. Hopefully they already understand the GOP is not a Christian organization.

Worship Satan? Give him even more power for evil ? THAT will help him see the light and turn to God ????? I don't think so !!

Satan said if you bow down and worship him, he will give you the world for free. The Democrat base accepted the offer.

A lot of southern Baptists are African American Republicans or are joining the Republican party this election. They are strongly against the homosexual fetish being considered marriage. They understand the consequences of such action, and are starting to see the left for what it is - Anti-Christ.

By osmosis - dontchaknow? Or, keep yer religion in your building and we'll all get along just fine. Just shut up and vote right, just like Je$$e tells his people to do for the dems - don't matter if you are represented or not. Just lern yer place and take it.

This must be the new talking point because the leftie trolls on a Christian forum I participate in have started spewing this clap trap.

The moral of the story is: you can have your rights, but you have to protect and defend them, too.

Amen to that! As an Evangelical, I am deeply concerned about this election - and strongly motivated to act and to make my voice heard.

This is a battle of good against evil. If the Evangelicals sit this one out, like 4,000,000 of them did last time (because of the DWI) then this country is lost, and most of the world along with it.

The time for Evangelicals to act is on Election Day. Otherwise they will be complaining loudly when Terry McAuliffe and Co move into the White House.

Protect our right to vote - correct. In so doing, do not allow intimidation by the left in their suggestion that because you are an evangelical you may want to place your faith on the shelf when making a decision of such importance.

I would hate to be part of a group that voted blindly for a party or individual simply because its leader said you must. I know so few teachers that are willing to step outside the box. Brainwashed they are.

Raciest? Please explain the stats that go with the voting block of individuals with African ancestry, union association membership and those holding teacher credentials? In my opinion, many if honest and not willing to be brainwashed would vote with the GOP. Too bad many are too puppet-like to stand on their own.
