I've had it with those French

Enough with France. That country is not a friend to the U.S.A. or to peace-seeking Iraqis and Afghans. French President Jacques Chirac continues to block efforts by the U.S.A. and Britain to bring stability to former dictatorships and make it more difficult for homicidal terrorists to operate. Take a look at Chirac's recent résumé:

* Last week, he blocked a newly created NATO strike force from going to Afghanistan to provide extra security for elections. Chirac said: "[The strike force] should not be used for troop shortages on routine operations."

* Chirac continues to insist that any NATO training of Iraqi forces be done outside that country. Of course that would create a logistical nightmare, not to mention enormous extra cost.

* In Istanbul last week, Chirac again refused to consider Turkey as an allied partner. You may remember in February 2003 France vetoed any NATO defense of Turkey in case it was attacked by Saddam Hussein.

* According to the London Times, and not denied by Ambassador Richard Holbrooke on my television program, France lied to Secretary of State Powell in the runup to the Iraq war. Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin apparently told Powell that France would support military action against a defiant Saddam and then reneged at the last minute. Many analysts believe that action gave Saddam hope that war would not come and led to his disastrous decision to continue violating UN weapons-inspection procedures.

* Instead of attending the funeral of Ronald Reagan as Tony Blair and others did, Chirac passed on the event, even though he was in Georgia 24 hours before the commemoration in Washington, just an hour-long plane ride away.

Even if one opposes the war in Iraq, a humane, clear-thinking person would have to want peace and freedom in that country. But time and time again, Chirac has made it more difficult for that to happen.

Of course, he is doing it to spite President Bush. But he's also doing it because his approval rating in France now stands at 35%, according to a recent poll. Chirac apparently believes he can rebuild his support at home by being anti-American.

The consequence of that strategy is that American lives are being lost, and things are made easier for the terror killers. Iraq and Afghanistan will never be free of totalitarianism unless there is security in those countries. But Chirac doesn't care about that. Chirac cares only about Chirac, and I've had enough.

So, no more brie for me. No more Evian, Air France, Provence and no more escargot, which I don't like anyway. As a free American, I am using my economic choice to send the French government a message. I am boycotting French goods and services and hope you will do the same.

As they say in Brooklyn, Chirac is a bum.

The big dog-and-pony D-Day show last month in Normandy was a cynical exercise. Bush and Chirac despise each other, and Chirac's hope that W loses in November is driving his agenda. Meantime, innocent civilians get their heads chopped off by terrorists, and Jacques can't help out. As his role model Marie Antoinette once said, "Let them eat cake."

I have one more Brooklynism for the despicable Chirac: You know what you can do with your Eiffel Tower, pal.

I was at my office building at work this past Saturday. The office building is connected to a hotel. The office building is closed on the weeknights and weekends, and you need a key card to enter. A man with a sticker stating he was from Paris tried to come into the office building with me. I told him that it was closed and that he could not enter. He muttered in his French accent, "You Americans are all terrosits."

There's a song in there somewhere! Let's see.... "Springtime. For Hitler. And Ger-ma-ny."

I wish we could do a really grand gesture to show our contempt for France – like return the Statue of Liberty. Who needs it. "Give me your tired, your poor; your huddled masses yearning to breathe free," bah humbug! Give 'em back their crummy statue, and let's bring our honored dead home and re-bury them on U.S. soil.

Heck, the last truly great French hero was the Marquis de Lafayette — and he was rejected by his own countrymen.

Why are we still issuing Visas to Frogs?
Why are US Passports still valid for travel to France?

What follows is an excerpt from my third novel, "A Grave Breach":

"Matsen and his team, known as A Force, knew about the Muslim Handschar Division. He had even heard that a second Muslim SS division was being formed. It is not widely known or at least dwelt upon that during World War II, many if not most of the occupied nations and territories raised and fielded military units to fight on the side of the Nazis. Plenty of people have heard the stories of the Baltic divisions made up of Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians, who’d fought for the Nazis. And there were Poles and Ukrainians in large numbers. And the Croats, of course. But there were also something like 15,000 Serbs, too. In addition, though, there were also Danes and Swedes and Norwegians and Finns - even Russians. And surprising to many, 50,000 Dutch and of course the infamous Tri-Color Legion also known as the Charlemagne Division of the SS. Made up of thousands of Frenchman fighting for Hitler. Some to the death in the Battle of Berlin in April 1945.
Contrast this with the “British Free Corps” also know as the SS Legion of St. George. The German military authorities particularly wanted to raise a unit made up of turned British POW’s and mounted a recruiting campaign consisting of offers of various and sundry enticements including direct payments of cash and the recurring company of prostitutes. The Nazi’s were rewarded for their efforts with the acceptance of their emoluments by no less than 30 enlisted men and a single officer who was shortly thereafter diagnosed as schizophrenic by the Germans themselves and repatriated against his will to the British. While the existence if not the reality of the St. George Legion had some propaganda value, that was the extent of its contribution and none of the members ever saw combat. Indeed, it is reputed that the Germans saw the St. George Legion as so untrustworthy that it was kept out of combat by direct order. 30 British misfits and 1 psychotic lieutenant as opposed to thousands of Frenchmen willing to fight and die for the monster who’d raped their own country. Apparently, some things never change." (C)

I'm afraid I did a little today to help the French economy.

A couple came up to me on the street, and asked me if I could direct them to the theater where Fahrenheit 911 is playing. I told them to go to the airport, and take a plane to Paris, where I'm sure it weill be showing on 50 or 100 screens.

I like to be helpful.

I was at United Airlines ticket counter recently and needed to borrow a pen. The French-speaking agent lent me an expensive pen, not knowing if he would ever see me again. So, one can't lump French speakers in a single bag.

True story. The first Afghan National Army battalion was trained by US Special Forces. The French insisted on a role (!) and the Franch Army sent trainers who instructed the 2nd Battalion in basic skills before it went to US SF for advanced skills training and "intro to combat."

Turns out.. they could march like a high school drill team, but they hadn't learned how to zero their weapons. At the rifle range they had just kind of fired at random, and been lauded for it, but les frogs. Asked about a foxhole, an infantryman could explain the theory of a fighting position perfectly well, but he hadn't actually dug one (or even been in one the other guy dug). Nobody had told them how the different arms and sub-units of an infantry battalion fitted together. The officers and NCOs (most of whom got that position because of combat experience gained in one or the other of Afganistan's wars... on various sides) were up in arms because they knew they'd been hosed on training.

After a couple days, the SF guys who had thought they were going to be putting some finishing touches on a combat-ready unit announced, "OK, tomorrow we are going to the rifle range and start over." They had to do the course of training the French bungled all over again, and THEN train the unit in advanced skills.

When it went to combat it was ready, no thanks to the French Army, but I have no doubt those slackers with the Gauloises hanging out of the corners of their sneers took credit.

France likes to pretend it's a world power, but it has a draft-type, unprofessional, semi-trained and poorly equipped, de facto third world military. It built its nuclear arms by selling the technology to third world dictators and terrorists -- who do you think built reactors for Iraq and Iran? It only got a permanent seat on the Security Council because DeGaulle held his breath till he turned blue.

Maybe if they got rid of Chirac and found another stubby Corsican to follow they'd amount to something.
