Statement by Bush-Cheney '04 Campaign Chairman Governor Marc Racicot (on Edwards)

ARLINGTON, VA -- "I welcome Senator Edwards to the race as Senator Kerrys running mate. Senator Edwards is a committed liberal and spirited messenger for his party in an election that will decide the course our nation takes in turning a recovery into prosperity for all Americans, and in the War on Terror. There will be vigorous debates about these issues in this election.
"President Bush and Vice President Cheney have worked to create jobs, lower health care costs, reduce taxes on small businesses and improve education by making schools accountable to every child and parent in America.
"President Bush and Vice President Cheney have led America and our allies with the strength of their convictions and the courage of a nation that saw first hand on September 11th the face of a new enemy. They will not waver in their commitment to protect our country from threats abroad and at home.
"Senator Edwards shares Senator Kerrys views on many important issues, such as his opposition to the child tax credit and marriage penalty relief; his objection to a prescription drug benefit for seniors; and his vote against our troops on the front lines in Afghanistan and Iraq. There is a clear philosophical difference between the parties in this election, and we welcome an honest debate about which ticket can best accomplish these goals and share the priorities of our great nation."

Thanks for that.
Have you seen this quote from our Senate Majority Leader?
"John is a very good senator, and I think will make a very strong vice presidential nominee. I wish him the best of luck. I think John Edwards is a man of high character, strong integrity and will be a very good vice presidential candidate."
-- Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn.
Did Frist get too drunk over the weekend or what?
When I read stuff like that, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

It is a show of respect. Nothing wrong with that. When it gets dirty, Frist can say that it just goes to show that the liberals cannot be respectful.
Good politics.

There's nothing wrong with a show of respect, but when said show of respect is so out of touch with reality, I get my dander up.
Yes, I know about the 'collegial' atmosphere of the Senate, but sometimes all that gladhanding is just so much B.S.

Of course it is. It is a huge crock. Look, Frist is probably thinking that this yo yo couldn't find his butt if you spotted him the btt. He knows what Kerry said about this guy and I am sure he feels the same way.
It is just too sad to watch. This is like reality TV without the beer and popcorn. I actually find myself turning this off out of embarrassment.

' I think John Edwards is a man of high character, strong integrity and will be a very good vice presidential candidate. '
I haven't heard anything to indicate what Frist said isn't generally true - and, in addition, Edwards and his wife did suffer a grievous loss of a son.
The obvious best way to proceed is to acknowledge all this - but to point out that in the way of policy, Edwards is, shall we say, a deep disappointment - a person, for example, long and sadly involved in financial class-warfare.
That , for one thing, puts the pressure on Edwards to similarly take the high road - instead of rabble rousing, which Kerry would like for him to do since Kerry is manifestly poor at this.
If Edwards doesn't take the high road, then, pity, he obviously isn't a man of character, integrity, etc. Tsk. Tsk.

we've said it many times - the Republican political operation stinks. that's it, they stink. if Bush wins, it will be in spite of the worst political team ever.
instead of having a unified set of talking points defining Edwards - trial lawyer and inexperienced are the two I would focus on. they just let everyone go out and say whatever they want.

If you look carefully, you'll see Senator Frist said he'd make a good "nominee" and "candidate". He never said he'd make a good vice president!

Listening to this garbage coming from the majority leader makes it clear to me why there is no defense coming out of the Senate from the incessant liberal attacks on Bush and the Republican mindset. It makes me depressed and makes it sound that John Edwards would make a great vice-president which is far from the case being part of the hate-America camp.
All this Mister Rogers niceness from Bush and Co does nothing but make our side appear weak and laughable to the other side and does nothing to inspire our side but only serves to demoralize us. If this remains the status quo you might as well prepare say hello to President Kerry and Vice-President Edwards.
