Former Kuwaiti Ambassador: Kerry Would Be "Catastrophic" for Mid East
Associated Press ^ | 7/7/2004 | Associated Press

Kerry has allegedly has "unnamed foreign leaders" in his corner, but today the Jerusalem Post carried an AP story which reports a former Kuwaiti ambassador belives the election of Kerry would be "catastrophic" for the Middle East:

Sheik Saud Al Nasser Al Sabah, who was Kuwait's ambassador to the United States when Republican President George Bush formed a US-led coalition to liberate Kuwait from Saddam Hussein's Iraqi army in the 1991 Gulf War, said a Republican government would do a better job in solving the region's problems.

'If the American administration changes in November, it will be catastrophic ... because those Democrats do not understand a thing about foreign policy, and they lack the determination to make decisions the way (President George W.) Bush made them in Iraq and elsewhere,' Sheik Saud told Al-Siyassah daily in an interview conducted recently in Kuwait.

... 'Our only hope is that this (Bush) administration will continue for the next few years to finish off dealing with our regional problems,' he added. The younger president Bush is running against Kerry for a second term in this November's vote.

Sheik Saud said Kuwait was lucky that George Bush Sr. was in the White House when Saddam invaded in 1990, while he believed America's post-1991 Gulf War president Bill Clinton was not as firm with the ousted Iraqi leader.

'Democrats are isolationists and they don't like foreign politics,' the former official said. 'Republicans are totally different.'

this is no surprise - Kuwait is not a Marxist dictatorship thus not the kind of country which would appreciate the likes of Hanoi John French Kerry.

Well, there's a foreign leader for Bush. Kerry still has Chirac and Assad on his side.

See? There's hope. Not all arabs are jihadist morons.

Of course, it will be interesting to see how many American newspapers run this story.

That's what I'm worried about. You'd *think* this would be big news, but I haven't seen it anywhere else all day, except the Best of the Web email.

I think that just negated the hope factor.
(but it's nice to see someone outside the USA can see through Kerry...
re-engage hope mode!)

I think you can be sure that if the Ambassador had taken the totally opposite view, it would get huge play here. Heck, it would probably be the top story on CNN.

As Rush would say, some AP reporter's career is in serious trouble for letting this story see the light of day.

Any Muslim who has common sense would want to see GWB reelected, and bring the first true chance for peace in the Mideast.

"Of course, it will be interesting to see how many American newspapers run this story."

I had a testy exchange with a reporter for The Seattle Times last week when I told her that I could get more balanced and better information from the Internet than from The Times. She said, "Yeah, you'll just go to some site that reinforces all your own opinions." I said, as a matter of fact, the place I go to (FR) gives me access to more opinions and more stories and more analysis, not less. This story is a good example; chances are it will not find its way into The Seattle Times.

When it comes to foreign policy, the Dems are terrified of taking any action that might make a real, lasting difference. They prefer Jimmy Carterism: diplomacy that leaves dictators in power, people starving, people enslaved, and people murdered, but which costs nothing and makes us feel good at the end of the day.
