Turk National Basketball player invited to carry Olympic Torch in Athens Greece

Kutluay to Carry the Torch in Greece

National Basketball player, Ibrahim Kutluay, will participate in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games Torch Race in Greece.

According to a statement issued by the Basketball Federation, the Greek Olympiad Committee offered (A) National Basketball Team Captain, Kutluay, the chance carry the torch on August 13 in Athens and stated that an official memo concerning the issue was delivered to the federation today with the signature of Penny Mikelopolou, one of the officials of the organization committee. Reportedly, the federation approved the request for permission to send Kutluay as he is now on the National Team's list.

Sort of like a Soviet being asked to carry the torch in an American Olympics.
