Ever since John F. Kennedy trounced Richard M. Nixon in a televised debate during the 1960 presidential race, the rule of thumb in politics has been that looks count. But can a candidate look too good for his own good? That is the question facing John Edwards's handlers, now that Senator John Kerry, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has picked Mr. Edwards to be his running mate. Mr. Edwards, whose movie star looks earned him recognition as People magazine's "sexiest politician" in 2000, is fighting attempts by Republicans to paint him as youthful and inexperienced. Rush Limbaugh's favorite nickname for Mr. Edwards is "the Breck Girl."
People vote for the top of the ticket. Let's face it, John F*ckin's greatest drawback is he does not look well on television.
Edwards is more than that:
The "silky pony".
The DNC's favorite Trial Lawyer, Little Johnnie Edwards, noted that driving ambulances to accidents was more effective for him than chasing them. Unstead of medical supplies and EMTs. He hauls law clerks and photographers to the scene of any accdident.

My first thought is that the NYT is lobbying for the
delegates to overrule Kerry and pick someone else (or
even dump Kerry).
Remember -
The NYT does not report news. They send messages.
Always look for the real message (and check today's
DNC faxes first - as it can make the message easier
to find.)
THAT, in and of itself, is enough reason to keep these freaks OUT of the White House.
> can a candidate look too good for his own good? That is the question
That's not the question at all. The question is whether image can carry the kerry/edwards team long enough before their left wing positions and dishonest dealings catch up with them. Good looks are not going to hinder anyone, unless they cover up something the candidate doesn't want the public to see.
Not at all. The issue in 1960 was JFK and LBJ's mob connections to STEAL the election in Illinois, W. Virgina & Texas. Gore didn't have those connections because he is an idiot, so he tried to cheat to win.
God help us.
Repeal the 19th Amendment.
I kinda like the nickname "a boy named Sue."
Or perhaps that should be "Thue."
I doubt that Iowa Farmer really cares about Edwards looks or Kerry's hair unless he also raises sheep!
"Cute"?--NOT.
I'm sure that Ms. Edwards will be thrilled to hear that.
MKM
I don't think he's all that good looking. He's okay, that's all. And not very masculine.
