John Kerry on Hunting
George W. Bush ^ | July 10, 2004

Posted on 07/10/2004 3:38:53 PM PDT by RWR8189

"I go out with my trusty 12-gauge double-barrel, crawl around on my stomach. I track and move and decoy and play games and try to outsmart them. You know, you kind of play the wind. That's hunting," said Kerry.  (Craig Gilbert, "Bringing candidate to life," Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 7/5/04)

The Truth about John Kerry’s Record for Hunters

§         John Kerry has the highest rating on the Humane Scorecard sponsored jointly by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the Fund for Animals.  Both groups are firmly committed to ending hunting in this country.

o       HSUS’ website says “sport hunting – the killing of wild animals as recreation – is fundamentally at odds with the values of a humane, just and caring society” (emphasis added). (www.hsus.org/ace/12035; viewed 7/5/04).

o       Heidi Prescott, the National Director of the Fund for Animals, said in a 1995 speech that the Fund for Animals is “unalterably opposed to the killing of animals for sport” (emphasis added).  (Speech by Heidi Prescott to the 4th Annual Governors Symposium on North America’s Hunting Heritage, August 1995)

§         John Kerry was endorsed by and received an “A” rating from the League of Conservation Voters. This environmental extremist group supports anti-hunters in Congress.

§         Kerry also has a 100% voting record with the anti-gun Brady Campaign.

§         John Kerry received an “F” rating from the NRA and a “0%” rating from Gun Owners of America in their most recent rankings of legislators.

o       Kerry’s campaign says he agrees with the view that there is “no personal constitutional right, under the Second Amendment, to own or use a gun”.

o       Kerry made his feelings about hunters known when he said “I don’t want to be the candidate of the NRA in this country”.

§         Unlike 60% of the U.S. Congress, John Kerry is not, and has never been, a member of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus.  The Caucus describes its membership as “open to Congressmen and Senators who are sportsmen or who support the concept of sustained use and wildlife management, even if they do not themselves take to the fields and waters to fish, hunt or trap.”

§         Kerry, who has missed more than 2/3 of his Senate votes this year, came back to the Senate to help kill the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.  During the debate, he voted for Senator Kennedy’s amendment to the bill which would have outlawed many center-fire rifle cartridges that hunters regularly use.

§         John Kerry cosponsored the Roadless Area Conservation Act in the Senate with other enemies of hunters like Barbara Boxer, Charles Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton.  The bill, if passed, would have greatly restricted access to our National Forest system by hunters, fishermen, and other recreational users.

This is a beautiful press release by the Bush team. They come up with a good excuse for releasing this ridiculous quote without actually commenting on the quote. The Bush campaign knows enough to know how idiotic this sounds and that anyone who knows ANYTHING about hunting will realize this guy is an idiot.

john kerry's new florida ad has him as father, husband, HUNTER, etc.

kerry is trying to tap into the 2nd amendment advocats. HE KNOWS THAT GUN CONTROL COST AL GORE AND DEMOCRATS VOTES.

another D flip flop.

I just about burst out laughing when it mentions three purple hearts. (pin prick a, killing dead man b, and scratch he nominated himself c.) It comes across as FUNNY and absurd, and kerry proudly anounces he approved this self humiliation.

He might be hunting Flying Fish from the front of his Yacht. Now that's a real sport, of course I prefer using a .22 with a 100 round clip with a hand crank on the trigger guard to make it work kind of like a real cheap Machine Gun.

To tell the truth, I've stepped in it. But I sure don't have no clue as to what kind of critter he must be crawling around with to kill it with that size scatter gun. Maybe he's talking about one of them there Turkey shoots? Gobble-Gobble

That is a bunch of BS. I hunt and no one I know crawls around on their stomach with a shotgun tracking and decoying. He just said a bunch of buzz words in no particular order. Kerry, as president, would cost honest law abiding citizens their gun rights. Sounds like he is trying to outsmart hunters and the partisan media is taking the bait. Is that fishing in Kerry's list of definitions?

Can't some FReeper find out if he has ever held a valid hunting license?

This is being overlooked by everyone. Has he passed a Hunter Safety Course? Where and what does he hunt? DID HE HAVE A VALID HUNTING LICENCE???? Someone should also look for Hillary's and Bill's hunting licence records. They both claim to have hunted ducks. It would be a real hoot if they all turned out to be POACHERS!!

Yes, indeed it's a bunch of BS. Kerry has been in politics for 20 years and he knows all the right things to say. Until this asinine statement. I hope it comes back to haunt him. I bet he's never shot anything except a clay pigeon. He's pandering to hunters, but we ALL know you don't hunt ANYTHING that way. ALL he's doing is making a fool out of himself.

Bart is my hunting dog. Bart is a Republican too.

Bart is a beautiful dog. I'm glad he's Republican. :-) I've been thinking about getting a chocolate lab for quite a while. Now that I live out in the country I have a lot of room for one. If I can find a good chocolate, Republican lab, I'll get one. LOL
