I heard that hit piece too and longed for the glorious past when there would have been a duel between VP Cheney and Leahy. There would be one less obnoxious leftist Democrat sucking up oxygen that a rat could use.

It was real strange that I had that quote so handy. I cancelled my subscription to the NYT years ago. But yesterday I was putting up signs for Herman Cain, who's running for Zell Miller's Senate seat, around Turner Field. As I was putting up a sign a section of paper flew by. I recognized the NYT print and picked it up knowing that reading it would raise my blood pressure.
Amazingly this morning I read this thread, posted the quote and felt much better. Thanks FR.

This is not a pipe.
This is not the truth.
This is neither reality nor the truth.

"Look at that smile on his face. He really does love the troops. A good man."
I feel the same way whenever I see these pictures. President Bush's track record of straight-shooting and plain dealing (he was once my Governor here in Texas) gives me no reason to think suspiciously of him.
It's a great feeling to have a President that evokes patriotism, and honor, and makes me get misty-eyed about it at times. Sad that there are many who do not realize him for the good man he is.
A foreign born co-worker said it best: "People in America do not realize how lucky they are to have Bush in the White House after 9/11. To think of someone like Kerry getting in office...horrible."

Only one problem with that.
Cheney is a gentleman.
Leaky Leahy, on the other hand, is no gentleman.
A non-gentleman cannot participate in a duel.
The correct response for Cheney involves a horsewhip.

I love the top painting. Magritte, right? One of my favorites. And so true.
So many people don't get it.

Yep Magritte. It's obvious when it's pointed out that it is not a pipe -- it is a painting of a pipe. We are so used to TV and newspapers being reality that we often forget that what we see on TV and read in the New York Times is not reality.
