Ron Reagan to Speak at Democrat Convention

Republicans have Democrat Sen. Zell Miller speaking at their presidential convention, and now the Democrats have landed former President Ronald Reagan's younger son to speak at theirs.

Ron Reagan's topic, naturally, will be stem cell research. He and his mother, former first lady Nancy Reagan, along with such Republicans as Sen. Orrin Hatch, favor medical research that destroys human embryos.

"Ron Reagan's courageous pleas for stem cell research add a powerful voice to the millions of Americans hoping for cures for their children, for their parents and for their grandparents," said David Wade, a spokesman for Sen. John Kerry. Reagan, 46, will have a "prime-time" speaking slot during the July 26-29 convention, Wade said today.

Reagan told the Philadelphia Inquirer: "If they had asked me to say a few words about throwing George Bush out of office, I wouldn't do it. This gives me a platform to educate people about stem cell research."

He could start by reading a little-reported article the Associated Press offered last month, in which scientists said research on stem cells was not the priority for curing Alzheimer's and other diseases.

Unbelievable. Perhaps he should read the book that influenced his father a great deal, Hayek's "Road to Serfdom".

Even the real Stem Cell proponents say that it offers little hope for Alzheimer's.

I don't know why, but this whole stem cell issue really irks me.

I guess its the underlying assumption that medical advances can't possibly happen without government funding of the research.

Wonder what Michael thinks of the turncoat? He has the typical look of a Rat with his smug look. Every family has a black sheep, it seems.

Not content with being the party of degenerates, the Dems are now courting the Frankenstein lobby.

Good idea. One fool speaking to a roomful of fools, and all to be broadcast on national TV for our entertainment.

Ron Reagan the elder's contribution to buttress the arguement for keeping abortion legal will demostrate the fact at the dimocrat convention.

He doesn't deserve to be named Ron Reagan.

There is a huge difference between stem cell and embryonic cell research! Not long after Nancy Reagan spoke about this (right before RR died), a massive research study result indicated that there was no path that this type of research will do Alzheimer patients any good. It is just another way to legitimize abortion in this country!!

Unlike his father, Ron Reagan has vitually no principles to speak of, and if I'm not mistaken, is an atheist.

Reagan was a great president.

But sadly, not such a great father. All of his children have deep issues which I wish they handled with a bit more stiff upper lip reserve than California "openness".

And what DOES Ron Jr do for a living ? 46 is kinda old to be still trying to make it in ballet.

Unfortunately..I have to agree with Sam the Sham. Reagan was a great president but not a great father. He could have stricter with his children in that "Hollywood environment." His daughter, Patty, should grow up. If you saw the way she had her hair and wearing a short dress during her father's funeral, it struck many of us that she is nothing but an "aging hippie." Ron, the ballerina, acts like he doesn't have much in the way of substance. Thank God, Michael, turned out to be a great conservative!

This strange idiot is doing similar harm to his father, just like Wellstone's son did to his father's memory.
