The National Lawyers Guild, founded in 1937, is an association of lawyers, law students, legal workers and jailhouse lawyers dedicated to the proposition that human rights are more important than property rights.
The Mass Defense Committee of the NLG-NYC Chapter, which has been providing legal observers and lawyers for activists since 1968, is proud to offer its depth of experience and knowledge to activists organizing events surrounding the Republican National Convention this summer in New York City. We can be contacted at:

The Committee is coordinating its efforts to provide RNC Mass Defense legal support with the Peoples Law Collective, the Association of Legal Aid Attorneys, the Center for Constitutional Rights, and the New York Civil Liberties Union.
ATTORNEYS
We are actively recruiting lawyers to provide pro-bono (free) legal representation. Ideally, we will find enough pro-bono lawyers to represent everyone who may be arrested at protests during the Convention. However, given the possibility of unprecedented numbers of arrests, we cannot guarantee we will be able to recruit enough lawyers to volunteer. That is why the Guild is also recruiting lawyers who would be willing to provide legal representation at low bono (substantially reduced) rates. In light of this, activists may want to make some contingency legal defense fundraising plans.
If you are a lawyer interested in helping out, please download our Attorney Questionnaire (PDF format), and mail or fax it to:

If you are a lawyer and are interested in helping, but you do not have criminal defense experience, we will be offering CLE trainings this summer. Fill out and send us the our Attorney Questionnaire (PDF format) and watch our Calendar for upcoming trainings.

Since it is unlikely that writing angry letters will help much in this situation, I urge any Freepers going to NYC for the Convention to carry along a video camera or even a couple cheap disposable film cameras in order to get pictures of the faces of anyone one of these anarchists, being careful to get close-up's of faces while they are "in the act". Then simply make copies and distribute them to the media and to the NYC police department.
The Dems are actually discussing tactics and methods for fighting the police and causing as much damage and chaos as possible, which anyone that is interested in seeing, can be found by reading the varios "Direct Action Handbook" that has been posted on the "www.rncnotwelcome.org" website:
These people are out of control. Anyone have any good ideas on how to counter the chaos they seem so intent on bringing to our convention?
On Brit Hume's Special Report tonight, there was a brief segment on Dem activists advocating rubbing themselves down with gun powder and situating themselves in the subway and places near Madison Square Garden, so they would throw off bomb sniffing dogs and create havoc and possibly disrupt the convention. Nothing on it on the FOX website.
I hope NY Freepers are ready for this....
That said, I think that since there's nothing we can do to really stop them, our focus should be on capturing every vicious detail and ensuring that people see these criminals for the monsters that they are.

Dem lawyers organizing to do pro-bono defense of RNC convention disruptors. Ping.
Totally out of control. But what I sense is that they are ASKING for trouble so that THEN they can make a big deal over it. Lots of media, lots of lawyers (scumoftheearth). It's a set-up and I hope the NY PD doesn't fall for it. Just let them rant and rave and stand there smiling, if possible.
These people make me sick.
at this point - the RNC ought to move the event to Orlando right away.
They are already planning to make this really ugly.
Dean really moved the Democrats left and they have taken that shift and gone even farther and further out of the mainstream. Now they are in full meltdown.
Congressman Billybob
Sunshine is the best disinfectant. Stay vigilant my friend.
they will do that - and they will also leave empty suitcases all over the place. all it takes is a few of those, and a few M80s going off in the bathroom at Macys - and all hell will break loose.
we've got Ron Kuby on the radio here every morning encouraging this, offering legal defense, etc. if any conservative radio host encouraged this kind of behaviour, he would be fired immediately.
Well. There's nothing wrong with being a witness. It's when good men do nothing, as they say. Help the cops. They're going to need it.
I'm not hoping for violence...but it will happen, and it will hurt the Dems..and help W. I don't know how many of yoiu remember Chicago '68..the convention AND the riots..but it turned of a lot of folks...the classic scene was the CT sen Ribakoff..at the speaker's dias in prime time..accusing the Chicago PD of "gestapo" tactics..then Mayor Daley, in the audience..giving Ribikoff the finger..believe me..HOward Stern had NOTHING on these guys..
ping
By all means.
Remember 1968 and 1972?
Let them run wild and have it broadcast around the world.
BUSH WINS BY LANDSLIDE!

"The Dems are actually discussing tactics and methods for fighting the police and causing as much damage and chaos as possible"
Dems tact and methods = New day same old sh*t. When apes go wild filmed by Paris Hiltons former one night stand / directed by Micheal Moore / distributed by Harvey bloated pimpmeister Weinstein.
Dems, "Last thing we remember we were running for the door in (insert political convention year, any will do)"
My son is with NYPD and if he ever got himself hurt by an idiot demonstrator I would go nuts,to say the least.
