Actress Sarandon visits Texas condemned killer

04:35 PM CDT on Wednesday, July 14, 2004

Associated Press

LIVINGSTON -- Actress Susan Sarandon spoke with a convicted killer for about two hours Wednesday in a Texas death row visit.

Sarandon declined to talk with reporters after she met with James Allridge, III at the Polunsky Unit in Livingston.

Sarandon is a death penalty opponent who won an Academy Award for her portrayal of an anti-capital punishment nun in the film "Dead Man Walking."

Allridge, who declined to speak with reporters Wednesday, faces execution August 26.

He was condemned for the 1985 shooting death of a Fort Worth convenience store clerk.

The victim was 21-year-old Brian Clendennen of Everman.

Allridge's connection to Sarandon may stem from his artistic pursuits.

Since 1993 he's produced handmade greeting cards that have sold in the U.S. and Europe.

I never met a murderer I didn't like.

I don't particularly like the death penalty, but if DNA is used in the conviction, then so be it. Susan Sarandon is a communist, plain and simple. That's fine... her privilege. And its her privilege to visit those in prison... nothing wrong with that - actually that's one of the seven acts of mercy which should be applauded.. but when she tries to start overturning a well fought death penalty conviction, then she crosses the line.

I'm just sitting here thinking that my wiener dog, who at this moment is eating cat turds out of the litter box, is an intellectual giant compared to this Hollywood mush brain Sarandon.

Will she be meeting with the murderers of Mr. Byrd, who was dragged to his death in Jasper, Texas?

Welcome to FR, but dude, that's a little rough. She may be a moron, but she doesn't deserve to be executed for stupidity. If that was the case I may have found myself in the chair a few times in my life. :-)

I wonder if she'll have a couple minutes to spare for the family of the murdered? I know I won't be holding my breath.

Fine. Let her visit.
But she should be forced to visit INSIDE the cell with these scumbags.

I wonder if Sarah would visit a condemned rapist-murderer without strict armed supervision? Or must the protest be safe?

One thing about the death penalty--it prevents recidivism, but it must be carefully applied.

Susan's efforts will have no effect on whether this killer is executed next month. If she wants to visit a killer, fine, but she's not going to accomplish a thing.

Governor Rick Perry will.

Perry ignored his "committee" (whatever it's called) which votes on death penalty cases a week or so before the execution, when it recommended commutation for a criminal, and Perry let him be executed anyway.

You can see the line move down here.

My God, she has finally gone over the line. She thinks she is the actress in her movie with Sean Penn.

Sarandon and her husband and all the other Hollywood idgits do these stunts for benefit of their own ego, so they can praise themselves and each other for being so compassionate.

Out of the other corner of their mouths, their words of hatred and pejorative lies directed at the President, the Vice-President and the Attorney-General, and conservatives and Christians, while praising Castro and giving Saddam the benefit of the doubt, only prove how self-serving their so-called compassion really is.

What useless flotsam and jetsom they are ... I avoid their 'entertainment' like the plague it is.

She really thinks she IS Sister Helen Prejean (except that she's been living in sin for over 15 years and has several illegitimate children)....
