WASHINGTON - Ooooh, isn't John Edwards dreamy? America's press corps certainly thinks so. News stories are awash with commentary from pundits and political strategists that suggest that People magazine's one-time "sexiest politician" is a babe magnet who will attract lots of female voters to Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign. One problem: It isn't true, at least not yet. In recent polling and in the primaries, Edwards' much-reported sway over women was either non-existent or hugely overblown. For example, polls conducted before and after Kerry invited Edwards to run as his vice president suggest his addition to the ticket did nothing to make it more attractive to female voters. The latest Washington Post poll included the names of the respective presidential and vice presidential candidates. There was a clear gender gap: 50 percent of all women who were registered to vote were supporting Kerry-Edwards, compared with 43 percent for President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. One problem: The same proportion of female registered voters -- 51 percent -- supported Kerry in a Post-ABC News poll conducted in mid-June, well before Edwards was invited to join the ticket. In that survey, 45 percent of all men were Kerry supporters, a slightly higher percentage than support him in the new Post survey. Could it be that Edwards doesn't turn women on -- he turns men off? The latest Post poll also asked whether voters had a more or less favorable impression of Kerry because he selected Edwards. If Edwards has mojo with the ladies, then there should be big differences between the reactions of men and women. Should be -- but there isn't. Among Democrats, 64 percent of all men and 67 percent of all women said they felt more favorably inclined toward Kerry because of the Edwards pick. And among independents, it was men -- not women -- who were more enthusiastic.
one flaw in the democrat demographics
they missed the fact that 99% of Americans HATE lawyers
So much conflicting information. Some polls make it look like we might as well start calling him "President Kerry" while others show Bush winning handily. This article suggests that Edwards did nothing for Kerry (which I think is true). Sometimes, I just want to stay away from all media, even FR, and just vote in November and turn on the TV the next morning.
Maybe if JK can keep from huggin' on him and being so touchy-feely, it would be different. They think Edwards is already spoken for!
I guess it's because I'm female, but I get so angry at people who spout the "he's so dreamy, so women will vote for him" line. I also hate to admit that in some cases, it's true. ACK!
These two "Johns" will make the Hindenberg look like a graceful decent
I have talked to two die hard Democrat senior citizens in the last week (one is my mother) who will sit this election out because they both resent Kerry nominating a trial lawyer as his vice president.
I don't know about you, but I can't wait for November!
Women love certified womanizers.
Harding
Kennedy
Clinton
All winners. All womanizers.
Now, Kerry would actually come closer to that mark from his past history than Edwards. Some subcatagory called gigalo.
Novemeber will be the icing, but as all these lying ass democrats are being exposed, Right now is the cake :-)
Didn't stop Bill Clinton.
Maybe it's just me. I was never attracted to slick talkers...couldn't trust them.
Women are dependent by nature and will tend to vote for a surrogate father or husband which is why the founders realized that women can't vote if the nation was to be built on self reliance.
This might be the wrong time to entice women voters with a pretty boy surrogate husband VP that offers no security and the guy on the top of the ticket just plain creeps everyone out.
Heh-heh...
Yikes
ok. They are going for the transgender vote. Next, they'll put a cape with a big J on the chest, to get the children's vote.. oh boyo... No .. no...! They'll do a press interview, with Edwards getting his locks shorn... to get the military vote. AND THE SKINHEAD vote. From there.. he'll lose an arm, just to pick up the "disabled" and "vet votes"..
you mean her hair? Would it fit in a booth?
As a man I will now speak for women and then run like hell. It could be that Edwards is just too soft and pretty. I think the one thing that has stayed pretty much consistent after 911 is the return of the masculine male. Edwards will make gay men's hearts pitter-patter but I am not surprised that women are not fainting at his feet.
