House rebukes [Corrine] Brown for 'coup' speech

U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown of Jacksonville was rebuked and risked being forced into silence by House members Thursday after suggesting Republican members "stole the election" in 2000.

In a seemingly rare vote, Washington officials said, the House decided, 219-187, to strike the "stole the election" statement from the congressional record. But they decided not to ban Brown from the House debate that day, as rules allow when members' reputations are impugned.

Afterward, Brown told the Times-Union she stood by her statements. She at one point said, "I would have clarified it." Asked how, she paused and replied, "The truth of the matter is I said what I felt."

Corrine Brown is a dumb bitch, but she's been one for years, and she keeps getting re-elected, despite getting caught in influence peddaling stings, etc. The only good thing about her is that she's so dumb she's harmless. My former Congressman, Bill McCollum, who used to represent the neighboring district, told the story about how she shot herself in the foot. McCollum was trying to get a courthouse built in downtown Orlando. Brown was out to get McCollum, so she got the Clintons to block it. When the media asked McCollum for a quote, he pointed out that the courthouse was going to be built in Brown's district. She had shot herself in the foot, and had no idea.

5:28 P.M. - WORDS REPORTED TO THE HOUSE - The Committee of the Whole rose to report the words that were objected to. Upon examination by the Speaker the comments were judged to be out of order and Ms. Corrine Brown (FL) appealed the ruling of the Chair. Mr. Buyer moved to lay the appeal of the ruling of the Chair on the table and Ms. Corrine Brown (FL) demanded a recorded vote.

Brown, a Democrat, has requested the United Nations or another international agency monitor the presidential election, especially Florida's voting. She has been a loud critic of the 2000 election resulting in President Bush's victory following a controversial recount, including in Jacksonville. And she has said she fears similar trouble could return this year.
