TIM McCANLIES of Secondhand Lions

Tim McCanlies wrote an outstanding movie called "Secondhand Lions" and it was a really great story.

I wonder where he got the idea for the storyline? Could it have been from here at Free Republic?

It was a great movie, along the lines of Forest Gump

I actually thought Second Hand Lions should have gone onto TV and been a series. There are alot of lessons in life that the movie handed out. And lets face it...the scene at the bar-b-q place with the four punks...was priceless. We need more movies like this.

Thanks for posting this. My son was just asking about good movies and I couldn't think of anything on the spot. I saw your mention of this, and phoned him at the video store, he found it and now will be well entertained tonight. It is a wonderful story, I think the weird title makes people think otherwise and not give it a try.

We buy dog food and chicken lay mash at a feed store, and my daughter joked about Lion Chow after watching the movie with us. Pretty good joke for a 7-year-old. :-)

It's good that a 7 year old can get enjoyment from a movie like this and respect for elders. We all have a story in us.... just waiting to come to life. This one shows us how to help others, at a much deeper level. Life is worth living!

I agree, with the exception that I think the stories in all of us ARE come to life. :-)

This is the second movie that I know of, that came from someone's suggestion here at "freerepublic.com". The other one was "Anger Management" and I've known of several commercials generated from here, such as "The Romin' Gnome" and the firing of William Shatner on "PriceLine.Com".

I haven't seen "Anger Management." "Secondhand Lions" came to my attention via the recommendation of a friend. And I ordinarily avoid Michael Caine, go figure. It's so nice to be pleasantly surprised by a movie!

I agree.

It was weird, and it was awful.

Anger Management is not as family orientated as Secondhand Lions and I don't recommend it for children. But if you've ever been accused of being "out of control" in order to put you under someone else's thumb... it's worth watching.

But I agree with pepsionice that Secondhand Lions could easily be made into a TV series.
