President Bush sets sights on Iran

The American government has reportedly set it sights on toppling the regime in Iran if it wins a new term in office.

The US wants to trigger a revolt within Iran by stoking up dissent among the population, a White House official told The Times.

The claim came as an Iranian minister said intelligence services had dismantled all branches of the country's al Qaeda network.

Iran is part of the "axis of evil" named by the US President along with Iraq and North Korea.

But unlike the toppling of Saddam Hussein, The Times said a change in Iran's rulers would not come about through military action.

However, the anonymous official, known to be a hawk, hinted at a possible strike against Iran's contentious nuclear programme.

Iran has agreed to defuse its nuclear threat but the US remains unconvinced.

"If George Bush is re-elected there will be much more intervention in the internal affairs of Iran," the official said.

In a separate report, Time magazine also claimed that the bipartisan commission into the September 11 attacks would conclude that Iran allowed al Qaeda terrorists to travel freely through the country.

An official told the magazine that the men involved in the terror strikes were in Iran between October 2000 to February 2001.

Interesting stuff, but why the leak now I wonder?

Excellent. This puts the Iran issue on the table. It's easy for Kerry to say "yeah, me too, only with France" when it comes to Iraq because that's a done deal, but now he has to actually go out on a limb: is he in favor of neutralizing a dangerous Iran or not?

It also pushes anti-American foreigners more into the Kerry camp, which can't hurt Bush when they start spouting off.

MAYBE to push it to forefront of political campaigns....forcing Kerry to be for it before he is against it. You know he served in Vietnam.

Hardly a leak. I can name a couple of other countries that would like to take out Iran's nuclear program and have the muscle and means to do it.

I wonder just how much it will take. I'd say not much.

Maybe Israel is poised to strike the Iranian nuclear facilities--like during the Demon convention.

The DNC would put out an emergency order for a truckload of Depends.

If Israel did strike Iran's nuke facilities W should come out no more than a couple hours afterward to support Israel's action.

Agreed. Although I wish we would do the job, that won't happen before Nov 3rd.

Either way the world will be mad at Israel and us, if either of us make the strike.

So what, screw them!

To Iran...

So, you want to hold hundreds of Americans hostage (1970's style)? So you want to assist the folks who attacked our country? Make no mistake about it, when GW is re-elected your number will be up and the world will be a safer place in which to live......

Don't you love that the worthless scumbags working for the IAEA had the nerve to recently tell Israel to disclose everything about their nuclear weapons programs? And I think they came to Israel straight from their pointless mission in Iran where the mullahs haven't disclosed jack for a decade.

IAEA--talk about a paper tiger!

I'm sure the mullahs tremble in fear of them--NOT!

The UN will no nothing about Iran's military nuclear facilites.

Once again, we and the Israelis will have to save civilzation.
