To hear this from someone in harm's way, whether civilian or military, is just painful!
We who are here need to make sure your votes ARE counted. I have done follow-up calls to voters who have had absentee ballots sent out, but not yet posted on the list as received in the elections office. The follow-up occurred too close to the election date to be beneficial to citizens on a long-term, far away assignment, though.
If absentee votes are submitted early, the voter could make arrangements with a trusted person to confirm its receipt at the elections office. It might make it more difficult to eliminate the vote from the count if they know someone is tracking it. If it hasn't been received when the inquiry is made, perhaps there would be time to request another ballot and repeat the process.
Just my thoughts. Hope some others can offer theirs. There has GOT to be a way to insure the counting of your votes!

I saw an offyear election article where the left was trying to "standardize" (Federalize) overseas/absentee ballots. Those are just as much up to each state to determine as those voting in person.

This issue worries me - seriously. And the postmark thing is SO bogus!! Thank goodness there was a judge with some sense in FL, but I'm not sure we can count on that everywhere!
I really have to make a conscious effort to hold my tongue, and keep my fingers from typing what I really feel about Albert-Arnold-Gore causing our military votes to be "disqualified," and his trial lawyers giving a High Five whenever they successfully threw one of our soldier's ballots in the trash! God help me, I'd be banned if I expressed my true LOATHING for what those demonrat monsters did to our military! And now, they're trying with all their evil might to get Felons to be allowed to vote!! O God my King, please forgive me for the hatred I feel toward your enemies; I pray for their salvation, but my heart longs for Justice as well! Democrats are so low down and dirty to have done this the first time. I wouldn't put it past them to try something worse this time. Just think of all the young soldiers that want to vote for bush and possibly be ham stringed by the commies while they ARE FIGHTING FOR THE USA!

I cannot imagine telling a military member, that their votes does not count because they are over seas getting shot at.
In 2000 one O-4 described how some lefty GS (civilian) puke got in his face and told him that she thought those in the military should not be allowed to vote.

yeah the proud product of our liberal 'edukational' system which denegrates the military to savant/servant caste system and thereby have no voting rights or legal recourse.
They have a new strategy. They plan on sitting on the ballots after the legal deadline for mailing them to the troops and hoping they won't get back before the deadline. It is already happening in Davidson Co. Tennessee.
A story in the paper and hundreds of phone calls to the mayor, representatives, and senators (both state and US) and election commission caused them to get off their fat DemocRat asses and work until 3 a.m. to get them out 9 days late. Before that their story was that they would get them out "in a few days", but apparently until the mayor and others lit a fire under them and let them know that we were on to their little game.
Make some calls, find out the deadline for mailing out absentee ballots and call and MAKE SURE they are. Don't take the word of some clerk, make sure you talk to the head of the election commission and ask them in front of witnesses if the military ballots are ready to be mailed out on time. Then call and make sure. They should have records.
