LONDON, July 20 (AFP) - British police have arrested five men following the broadcast of a documentary showing members of a far-right political party boasting about committing racist crimes, officers said Tuesday.
The film, shown last week by BBC television, pictured members of the British National Party (BNP) bragging to an undercover reporter about beating up a man of South Asian origin and other offences.
It also had BNP leader Nick Griffin - who has attempted in recent years to portray the party as legitimate and non-racist - condemning Islam as a "vicious, wicked faith".
The arrests were made in and around Bradford, a city in northern England which has a large South Asian population and where the BNP has been campaigning hard in recent months.
A 23-year-old Bradford man was held in connection with racially aggravated public order offences while a man aged 51 was arrested over allegations of racially aggravated harassment, West Yorkshire Police said.
Two others were held in connection with conspiracy to commit criminal damage while the fifth was arrested over possession of a firearm.
One BNP activist had told the undercover BBC reporter that he attacked an Asian man during race-related riots three years ago in Bradford, beating him unconscious.
In local elections last month, the BNP won four council places in Bradford, among a handful of local seats now held by the party, which has a platform of ending immigration and encouraging non-white Britons to return to their countries of origin.

For me, two of the most important ideals to which I try to adhere when living my life are "judge not, lest ye be judged", and "do unto others as you would have done unto you".
Imagine what the world would be like if everyone aspired to fulfil those ideals...
I get it. It must have been a right wing group just because it was racist. There is no way in hell that a left wing group would ever do anything racist. In reality what makes this group right wing????
That is not true! As someone who left a country that is ruled by someone far more left wing than Mr Blair, I am enjoying living in the UK. As for no patriotism, everywhere I look there are English flags, and many of the English people I know are proud of their country (especially when it comes to talking about the recent NZ/Eng cricket tests, or the rugby world cup - although we've turned that around again!)
I think the culture and history here are wonderful. In NZ, the lefties are trying to bury european history because it is embarassing - that is, we spent a lot of time taking advantage of the Maori. So we are not allowed to take pride in our history - only the Maori history. In the UK, I can find the other half of my identity!

I was talking about the way the country has disintegrated over the past twenty years. I have Kiwi relatives who visit every five years and notice the decay each time they come back. I am glad that you are enjoying the UK and what it offers, but one RWC win does not compensate for the embarrassing incompetent ex-teachers who are running this country.
A couple of victories against a depleted England side hardly counts as a turnaround. All Blacks should be the greatest side in the world but they choke at the crucial moment...
