Arlington, VA - Today, Bush-Cheney '04 launched its African Americans for Bush National Steering Committee in Detroit, Michigan. The Honorable Alphonso Jackson, former U.S. Congressman J.C. Watts and Actor Joseph Phillips joined Bush supporters at a press conference to introduce the 61-member team.

"A record number of Americans - nearly 69 percent of us - are homeowners. And for the first time ever, more than half of all minority households own homes in their communities," said Jackson as he touted President Bush's initiatives to close the homeownership gap and create 5.5 million new minority homeowners by 2010.

The African Americans for Bush National Steering Committee will lead the campaign's outreach efforts to the African American community nationwide and serve as messengers of the President's positive agenda.

Former U.S. Congressman J.C. Watts praised President Bush's economic plan. "One hundred eleven million people now have lower tax bills. Small businesses and community entrepreneurs got a tax cut. Almost 15 percent of small businesses are owned by minorities. Now they are keeping more of their money. They're hiring more workers. The economy is growing faster than it has in nearly 20 years - and we've added 1.5 million new jobs since last August," said Watts.

Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele and NFL Hall of Famer Lynn Swann led the first meeting of the group prior to the announcement. Following the press conference, Bush supporters participated in a community service project.

LOL - Could turn out to be very interesting and beneficial to Bush. African Americans this time are starting to realize that the Democrats have been using them for years and won't let them think for themselves. There are no guarantees but there is some movement going on you can just feel it.

I hope these gentlemen are prepared for the verbal debasing they are about to received from their Democrat counterparts. I've never heard such vitriol worse than what I've heard directed towards conservative minorities outside of what the rats dish out.

I agree. I've read some of the stuff they have written about Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell and it is digusting.
