Berger should have been arrrested the day the FBI viewed this tape. Releasing it now is political, and shameful - and egregious that it was not done sooner. A 9 month investigation is not meeded for someone caught on tape stuffing national security documents into his underwear!!!

Did he stuff the stuff in his shorts 'n stuff or was that just hype? Bloomergate?
To: HAL9000
Look he said he threw them away... That does become a National Security crisis.
So these TOP SECRET reports are floating around on a landfill for anybody to find. Now it is imperative to find out exactly what they said. God forbid a terrorist group can gain something from them.
This needs full accounting ASAP.

If it's such an insubstantial issue why did the Feds search his home? Why is this going on 9 months later?

Democrats questioned why disclosure of a months-old investigation came just before Thursday's release of the final report by the commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks. To quote a reader of Glenn Reynolds named Michael Greenspan, "no matter when the story broke, Republicans would be accused of exploiting it to distract public attention from something -- Bush's National Guard service, the Democratic primaries, Abu Ghraib, continuing unrest in Iraq, the 9/11 commission, whatever might sit atop the anti-Bush hit parade that week."

While Martha Stewart gets jail time for lying about something that wasn't illegal.

This was leaked by the Clintons. They figure Bush won't dare have Burgler charged at this time. They think he'll be afraid of the political fallout.
We shall see.

I doubt very well that the prosecutor who nailed Martha Stewart will settle this. If he does, it will need more than a fine, it will have to be a plea bargain that incriminates his associates in the Kerry campaign, if not Kerry himself.

I am so sick of this "New Tone" garbage I could scream. If this doesn't get them to take off the white gloves, nothing, absolutely nothing will.---
You're right, but I'm afraid there aren't any real men left in government. This country may be finished. Too many lies over too many years. Everyone is selfish and gutless.

And late Tuesday, law enforcement sources say they don't expect charges to be filed. What sources ? Certainly not the ones investigating because that would be a violation of the laws. But they make it sound like its the officials investigating.

These "sources" comments stand in stark contrast with the remarks of prosecutors. We'll see.

Makes a lot of sense. Nix a deal with Berger so you won't have to file charges. Roberts is full of stuff.
To: HAL9000
So, what does one have to do to have charges filed these days?
Is there a new formula that weighs party affiliation and service to country on one side vs. crime committed and/or seriousness of it on the other side?

(Sandy Berger was just having a premature redactulation.)

Sandy Berger didn't seem too sure about that (not being indicted) when he made his statement tonight. His voice was about to crack and it was a very short statement. I don't think he was laughing about anything.
