Voters ignoring Fahrenheit 9/11
25 July 2004
LOS ANGELES: If Michael Moore had hoped that his biting documentary critique of the Bush administration might turn the tide of the upcoming US presidential race, he may have to settle instead for the film's box-office success.
A Los Angeles Times poll of likely voters published on Friday showed that Fahrenheit is drawing an overwhelmingly Democratic audience and that few Republicans who have seen the movie appear to have been swayed.
The findings support the contention of conservative critics that in terms of its political influence, Fahrenheit 9/11 is unlikely to go beyond preaching to the Democratic faithful.
Just 9 per cent of 1529 registered voters surveyed nationwide July 17-21 had seen the film, which lambastes President George W. Bush for his response to the September 11, 2001 attacks on America and his reasons for going to war in Iraq, the Times said.
Of those who had seen the movie, 78 per cent identified themselves as Democrats, 9 per cent as political independents and 6 per cent as Republicans, the Times said. Ninety seven per cent said they were planning to vote for presumed Democratic nominee John Kerry.
In addition, 79 per cent of those who had seen Moore's film said it would not change how they vote in November, though 18 per cent said it made them more likely to vote against Bush and 3 per cent said it bolstered their resolve to vote for the president, the newspaper said.

Fahrenheit, which won top honours at the Cannes film festival in May, is on its way to crossing the $US100 million mark in US and Canadian box office receipts this weekend, an unprecedented sum for a political documentary.
Moore has said he hopes the film could shape the outcome of the election, but political scientists and campaign strategists have speculated that the movie's most likely effect would be to energize the liberal base of the Democratic Party.
Future research may show moore helped more than kerryRAT.
This comes under the heading of: "Well, DUH!"
Like most liberal messages, it has no audience in the mainstream American consciousness.
It resounds in liberal minds, is picked up by corrupt "journalists" and politicos, is passed by congress, is vaidated by liberal court systems and becomes and becomes law. How else to explain 2% gay population making such inroads in this country? The other 98% of America really doesn't care about "gay rights". Only the politico's do.
Where was Moore's documentary of Clinton receiving millions in Chinese campaign contributions? I can't believe this trash of a movie has made close to $100 million. Are people that stupid? Do they realize they're supporting someone who thinks Americans are stupid?
So he's only been preaching to the [infernal] choir?....;)
I have never seen a "hit" turn into a *FLOP* this quickly. I'm *ALMOST* beginning to feel sorry for Michael *MORON*, who must know his 15 minutes are up and he's never going to make another *SO-CALLED* movie.
The winds are changing, my friend. Today John Kerry was even *BOOED* at a Red Sox game! Even liberal Taxachusetts can't stand this guy! *HAHAHAHAHAHAHA*!
Go President Bush!
