INTERNAL FIGHT OVER HOW MUCH BUSH BASHING AT CONVENTION

Democrat party officials are struggling to contain the amount of anti-Bush and anti-war comments to be delivered this week during the convention in Boston, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

DNC chair Terry McAuliffe has expressed concern that nonstop Bush bashing from the podium could quickly spiral out of control and backfire.

DNC staffers have also been told to be on the lookout for "unreasonable" Bush bashing signs held by delegates on the convention floor which could be highlighted on television.

"We are not Michael Moore," McAuliffe has told his top staffers, according to a well-placed source. "Let's tell the voters what we stand for, not only what we stand against."

McAuliffe has reportedly given orders to senior staff that hard-core Bush bashing should be saved for other forums and surrogates.

"Of course there will be a fair amount of pointing out the president's record," a top party source explained from Boston.

Top Kerry strategist Bob Shrum is also warning not to turn the convention into a default Hate Bush rally.

But the temptation to rip Bush without mercy is proving to be too much for many of the speakers.

Kerry operatives are editing convention speeches, sources say, with only Al Gore and Ted Kennedy believed to be off-limits.

[The move is reminiscent of Nixon at the 1968 convention in Miami, when the campaign edited out anti-war liberal Republicans.]

But, there won't be any censorship of those who do...

Correct, I am not talking about the cable coverage, just the major networks. The media will filter and whitewash everything that they summarize and repackage from Boston this week.

This convention will be the Dems' Waterloo...

May it be exactly as you state.

I, for one, will NEVER EVER forget that the 'RATS booed the Boy Scouts at their last convention!

I think we can safely assume that the first night with Kennedy and Gore will contain plenty of Bush bashing. The network non-coverage won't help.

Remember that the Wellstone Funerally was only shown on cable nationally...yet somehow a good portion of the country knew about that fiasco in less than two days.

Also, remember who is in charge of Kerry's campaign: Bob Shrum. Have you EVER seen Shrum say anything remotely positive? Nope. He is unable to do so.

My bet is what the democrats think funny and non-Bush-bashing is going to be pretty grim to the rest of the country.

The damage has already been done. So many people already believe the election was stolen, Bush went into Iraq for Haliburton, etc, etc. Now they'll come up with a phony message and platitudes of what their plans are, and people will fall for that, too.

I guess then, it's important the 5% who will be voting for the Conservative candidate should reconsider their responsibility to their country and their children and vote Bush.
Sometimes it's important to re-evaluate one's priorities and place long term goals such as the health of a nation so many of them claim to care so much about. If it's that's not possible, perhaps they should consider the lives of their children and grandchildren in a country where gay marriage is the status quo, abortion on demand doesn't get a second thought and the 2nd Amendment is asterisked as "historical" not actual.

The only emotions they seem to be expert on stirring up are those who buy into their lies and are most likely going to vote against Bush anyway. Their "manipulations", at least lately, seem to have the exact opposite effect on Bush-supporters and those who are undecided at the moment.

The Wellstone Memorial is a prime example of this, as will be the activities of the upcoming week. Instead of cringing every time a speaker makes a hideous, revolting, hateful comment... smile. They're not convincing anyone who's not convinced already, and they're driving the very people we need right into our camp. If it revolts you, it revolts other conservatives and it most likely revolts the average American who was undecided simply because he or she simply didn't know any better.

that is exactly right.

they have used the hate and lies messages to secure the base, and a bunch of other idiots they have brought along for the ride.

now they will change the message, to go after people who will likely be seeing Kerry for the first time.

don't underestimate them.

Exactly right....and if they try to be something other than what they really are, they're doomed. Look for unprecedented phoniness.

"So far the only way Kerry comes even close to these results is by bashing Bush.

You've hit on a big point, Dolphy. They know Kerry is boring, and now it appears it will be b o r i n g 24/7. They won't excite anyone, and I don't see this grabbing the undecided middle, which is their real goal.

"Let's tell the voters what we stand for, not only what we stand against." Terry McAuliffe

Definitely, too tall an order.

No way in the world they can stand up and say, "We represent International One-World Socialism."

Al Gore will not be edited..this is a dream come true...maybe he'll pull a Peter Finch from Network, have a nervous breakdown on the podium and start screaming, "I'm Mad As Hell And I'm Not Going To Take It Anymore!" I can dream, can't I?
