Review of Garrison Keillor's "Homegrown Democrat"
amazon.com ^ | July 26, 2004 | Gruffbear

I wrote a brief amazon.com review of Garrison Keillor's "Homegrown Democrat," one of the most vile, bigoted tracts published by a major publisher this year. Apparently the lefties have been voting against my review in droves! Please stop by and vote for it. Muchos Gracias!

The left BIASES the reviews on Amazon, they BIAS the ranking of news articles and photos on Yahoo, they BIAS the rating and recommendations of films on IMDB, they BIAS online polls.

It isn't paranoia, I've seen the posts on DU encouraging such action. F911 had 800 "perfect 10" votes on IMDB before it even opened.

Homegrown democrats, like bunch radishes, tend to be fresher, crunchier and tastier than commercial (bagged, pre-cut) variety.

Snob Appeal; Preaches to the Keillor Cult, July 24, 2004

If you're the type who loves Garrison Keillor's humor; and if you buy into the meme that Democrats are naturally imbued with Goodness and Virtue, and Republicans are Selfish and Congenitally Evil, then you will absolutely adore this book. On the other hand, if you don't hold this viewpoint, you will find Keillor's views driven by a shocking bigotry. His cloying homespuns are laid down with a mortar of vitriol for a group he calls Republicans; but who do not even remotely resemble anyone I know who wears that label. This was not a pleasant read for me. I found it hard to believe that this vile little book could be produced by a writer having a charitable heart, or the virtues he fatuously claims to be endowed with. I guess the most damning thing one could say is that Garrison Keillor is the kind of man who would write a book like this. How could anyone not pity him?

Unless Garrison's book is titled "Homegrown Jackass" I'm not reading it.

Well, I would hazard a guess you will see better results in about 24 hours. ;)

So we are supposed to vote for your book review even though we haven't read the book? Did you read the book or do you just spam books you don't think you'll like with pan reviews?

I'd rather read reviews by people who actually read the book, pro or con, not just spam propaganda put there by one viewpoint or another. Product reviews should be just that.

I've tried to grow democrats at home myself. I can't get any to grow - I may be planting them too deep. :)

"I can't get any to grow - I may be planting them too deep."
Sounds like insufficient fertilizer to me. Try more manure on them...

Can't be the fertilizer, these guys come with their own BS and it's enough to bury anything.

You have a point, sir. I did buy the book (shame on me!) at a Borders Books in Atlanta. I'm a masochist, I admit it. But I wonder if the review above mine was by a person who read it?

Please, if you are a man of integrity, don't vote. :)

And to the rest of you, Thanks!!!

I am neither a man, nor all that integral! LOL!

eh - I was just carping at ya for worrying about a book review. Most people who buy it will be predisposed to like the point of view.... why would they care what a Freeper thinks?

I like PHC, so a story about Keillor caught my eye... I know he's a democrat, but so were my grandparents, God bless them, and his stories remind me of them and make me smile.

He doesn't go out of his way to bring politics to his show, and I don't usually hunt down his politics. I won't be buying ~this~ book, for example :~D

Hi there,

I gave it three stars because I still think people should buy it ... then they'll see what GK is made of, and quit listening to his show.

It's the Barbara Streisand effect ... I used to like to listen to her music until she started explaining what her political views were ... then I couldn't bear to listen to her.

Madam,

I can relate. My maternal grandpa was an old Norwegian socialist ... he organized the first local of AFSCME IN Wisconsin ... he was the kind of man that Keillor fantasizes being.

But even grandpa wouldn't hate people simply because of their political affiliation.
