Kerry to Colombian president: break ties between army & paramilitaries (predicts his foreign policy)

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Democratic presidential contender John Kerry, his running mate John Edwards and 21 other US senators this week called on Colombian President Alvaro Uribe to break ties between the Colombian army and the country's right-wing paramilitaries.

"We appreciate your commitment to establishing a secure future for Colombians and understand the difficult and complex challenges you face," the 23 senators told Uribe in a letter dated July 26, made available to AFP on Wednesday.

However, said the letter, "we remain deeply concerned about the continued levels of violence directed at the civilian population."

The letter, whose signatories were all Democrats except for Vermont independent James Jeffords, a converted Republican, urged Uribe to follow the recommendations of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) in dealing with violence in his country.

"The most urgent UNHCHR recommendation is to cut ties between the army and paramilitary forces engaged in abuses, by suspending, investigating and vigorously prosecuting officials engaged in such collaboration," said the letter.

"As you know, addressing these abuses requires impartial and effective justice," it said.

"The UN also raises important points regarding the vulnerability of human rights defenders, journalists and union leaders. Progress in investigating and prosecuting threats and attacks against such leaders is essential," said the letter.

John Kerry is a freakin' dinosaur. Colombia has been besieged for decades by brutal terrorists, and the bottom line is, Kerry is anxious to see that the government and military of Colombia respect the human rights of those terrorists. Kerry does not get it. He does not understand the problem in the first place, and yet he arrogantly seeks to dictate a solution.

Will he be concerned for the human rights of Bin Laden and Al-Zarqawi?

Answer: you bet he will. You better believe he will.

Absolutely. Unfortunately, this news is getting buried because of the convention. But it's a major signpost to the kind of foreign policy we could expect under a Kerry admin (saints preserve us).

Kerry is a true Leftist ideologue.

As I've mentioned to other FReepers, earlier in the week I had a great deal of fun lampooning the Dem convention. But with this news yesterday, I decided it was time to get serious. A Kerry presidency would be deadly serious, emphasis on deadly — for us and for a lot of people around the world who oppose the Leftists in their countries.

Amen to that. Kerry, for all of his pretense of being worldly, is naive to the point of being provincial on international issues like this. Kerry does not get it.

Whether or not he gets it, throughout his adult lifetime, with the exception of his brief tour in Vietnam, Kerry has consistently supported Marxists/communists and opposed those fighting against such regimes.

The prospect of a Kerry presidency really has me spooked

And well it should. This time he'll beach the boat that holds our children and our country's future.

I am so convinced that this guy is a commie NUT-CASE [he really is nuts], that I really believe if he wins, that it will mean the end of the United States morally, economically, and most likely, physically. Not to mention what will happen to us as individuals, especially white Christians and our families, who are hated by the marxists as the evil of evils, and the biggest obstacle to their plans.

Indie, I agree with you in all respects except one: I don't for one moment think Leftist true-believers like Kerry are nuts. That let's them off the hook way too easily. No, they know precisely what they're doing when the support Marxists, and when they attempt to weaken the United States.

Oh, but he does get it! He full well understands that the target of the "right-wing paramilitary" is the Marxist revolutionary FARC.

And, just as he supported Castro, Ortega and the Sandinistas, Kerry supports the Marxist rebels in Colombia.

The man has never met a Communist he didn't like. Communism is one issue Kerry has never flip-flopped on...

Kerry is obsessed with interfering in the internal functions of South American countries.

Like when he hooked up with Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua?
