All you Freepers going to the RNC- check in here! I am lucky enough to be going as a guest of a Freeper delegate from the honorable state of Arizona!

I have spoke with some other Freepers that are attending and we have batted around the idea of getting together to meet, perhaps for lunch or something.

All Freepers that are going to be there, AND all New York area Freepers that would like to attend, please put your input here!! Where and when we meet will depend on the feedback received here.

AND---I am only going to be there Tuesday, August 31 until Friday, September 3, because I work for 2 ultra lib Democrats and I really can't afford to take more than that off of work. SO I would appreciate it if we could have the FR meeting while I am there!

I've been to two. '72 and '96 (Miami, San Diego). I enjoyed the experiences.

that sounds like great fun! I have not been to NYC since 1989 when I was 14, so I am a little trepidacious (sp?) but I think it is SO GREAT to witness NYC in the grips of all those Pubbies!

And I hope I don't get arrested for assaulting a protester. They just make my blood boil!!

Hey, lawgirl! Sounds like a good idea. Not sure if I can make it for a meeting/lunch, but I will try.

I won't be able to see W without a ticket, though. Hope you will be able to see him! I was about 10 feet away from him when he had a campaign stop in my area during the last election. Yes, he's a cutie! He electrified the place. Laura looked great, too!

I'm arriving around 10:00 AM on Sunday and leaving Friday 1:00 PM. Where is everyone staying? Maybe that would help us find a central location for meeting. I haven't been to NY since high school graduation and really don't want to say how long ago that's been, but it HAS been a while, so I'm not familiar with any meeting areas, but I have no doubt us Freepers will find one, without too much trouble. Wednesday might be a good time. That would give you a day to be there, but before the BIG night when we see Preident Bush. Of course, we could meet AFTER his speech. Might be a little late, but we'll probably be so pumped up, we won't be sleepy. :)

I'm staying at the Warwick on 54th Street, between 6th and 5th Avenue. Anyone staying near any of these places? If everyone can check out points of interest from their hotels, we should be able to find a good location.

Nearby Points of Interest from my hotel.

Fifth Avenue - 1 block
Museum of Arts & Design - 1 block
American Folk Art Museum - 1 block
Broadway - 2 blocks
Museum of Television and Radio - 2 blocks
Rockefeller Center - 4 blocks
Carnegie Hall - 4 blocks
Trump Tower - 4 blocks
Radio City Music Hall - 4 blocks
Central Park - 6 blocks
Times Square - 13 blocks
Grand Central Station - 15 blocks

It's probably best to either meet at a restaurant or in a hotel lobby (provided it's a reasonably small one), so that we don't get lost and miss each other.

Trying to set up a meeting at a big, crowded tourist attraction -- like a museum or Rockefeller Center -- is just asking for problems. As far as I know, none of us has ever met anyone else in this group, so we want to make it as simple as possible.

My humble suggestion is that once we know how many people will commit to this, we pick what type of restaurant (in terms of a TGI Friday's-type or something more unusual, as well as price range) and then make a reservation as early as possible.

Also, if anyone is interested in seeing what's left of the WTC site, I can take care of that -- it's literally my neighborhood.

Another thought is that we can meet in a hotel lobby and then travel to a fun restaurant downtown. The Village, Soho and Tribeca have some interesting places that (except for Tribeca, which is infested with Hollyweird types and is a popular tourist destination, although southern Tribeca isn't as bad) most of the visitors here won't know about, and will likely be less crowded.

For example, my favorite restaurant is a smallish Afghan place in the East Village. Yes, Afghan. :) Lots of lamb, beef and chicken dishes with basmati rice. And not expensive.

We also have some great dim sum places in Chinatown that are just unreal. You sit at a table that has a long card on it, and little Chinese women run around with different dishes on carts. As they stop at your table, if you choose to take a dish, they give it to you and mark it on your card. It kind of looks like a Chinese version of roller derby. :) After you're done, you give the card to a waiter or bring it to the cashier, and they total up your bill. But Chinatown can get crowded.

Oh, I'm so,SO happy you are getting to go!
I did my best for you.

Hope there will be lots of live threads and reports as
you know we all will be there in spirit.

There used to be a little bakery at the Manhatten ferry terminal that had the best Cannoli.

Remember how you tell it's Spring in New York.
The hot dog venders change their water!

We want to hear ALL about it.

If I thought I could turn them for a profit, I'd do it
and I'D go.

Sorry about the message in Post #16.

It was meant to go no the DOSE. :0)

But I'm still interested in going if I can come along with anyone who is going, I could get up to NYC via traian if nobody is near enough to Baltimore, MD to pick me up.
