The Iranian Army is not bigger than Iraq's, although it is slightly better equipped. They don't have nuclear weapons, and their population has already shown more courage in terms of resistance than the Saddam-era Iraqi's did. The likelihood that the US will ever lose 50,000 lives in a conflict with a 3rd rate nation - Iraq, Iran, Argentina, Belgium - is nil. Besides, we need to kill Zarqawi and shake up the mullahs, not invade.

Western intelligence sources said the United States has quietly determined that Al Zarqawi has not been in Iraq for more than a month. The sources said Al Zarqawi left the Sunni Triangle for the Iran-Iraq border and has been moving in an arc from Iran in the east to Syria in the west as he continued to relay orders, plan operations and relay funding. Hmmm! From Iran all the way to Syria????

A buddy of mine is a Marine who just got back. Early on in the war they were in a running gun battle with some ragheads who were running towards the Iranian border. All of a sudden his unit started taking some serious fire. Turns out they were VERY close to the Iranian border. Ironically, his C.O. was just about to check to see just how close they were.

You know you are talking up an Army that could not take out in 8 years the one that we took out in 3 weeks?
The country that has a sizable opposition movement and its own brand of ethnic tension?
I am getting sick of hearing about what bada$$es the camel humpers are. Anytime they take on a non arab or islamic military, they are fighting out of their weight. The only damage they can do is hiding behind their women & kids while setting booby traps.

You're right, Iran isn't Iraq. They have a parallel government in Tehran. All we have to do is take out the Islamic Republic people, suppress the Revolutionary Guard with air power, and use special forces in coordination with the Iranians against the Basiji. Then let the people of Iran and the democratically elected government take over. They won't fall in love with the US, but we'd be in a far better position than we are now.

Well, Iran is purusing Nuclear technologies they should not be, maybe we can kill Zarqawi and blow up their nuclear program at the same time and get two birds with one stone.

The likelihood that the US will ever lose 50,000 lives in a conflict with a 3rd rate nation - Iraq, Iran, Argentina, Belgium - is nil. With the newer, larger armed UAVs, we have the capability to watch and wait for the ideal opportunity to drop "Hellfire" on his head. Not one soldier would be required to toast this scumbag.
As for invasion of Iran and losing 50,000 troops... In my uneducated opinion, but from historical observation, by UAV sky-watching and letting our forces know exactly where their forces are located, it seems to me that cruise missiles and a variety of appropriate ordnance dropped from various aircraft [i.e. cluster bombs, M.O.A.B.s & Daisy Cutters, carpet bombing etc...] that again, not one ground soldier need ever be involved.
The Israelis are going to take care of Iran's nuke facilities.

I sincerely doubt it. They wouldn't know what hit them. If they massed any of their forces, they'd be destroyed within days. All their planes would be shot out of the sky. Don't get me wrong. I'm not advocating attacking Iran. But they wouldn't stand a chance. By the way, we'd have much better support from the locals than we do from the Iraqis.

Why not advocate an attack on Iran?
Iran has asked for it many ways.
To: Hollywoodghost
We could give it a try but the outcome might not be good the cost in lives would be in the 50,000 mark for us alone. As long as this state supports the terrorists we have lost. There are other ways to destroy states besides militarily. All is not lost.
