Let me be the first: "Rick James is dead, b*tch!"

Haha... dammit! I was gonna say that too!

I may be alone here, but I love Lionel Richie songs!

I saw him on TV not long ago talking about all the songs his written and now he said "I'm just known as Nicole's dad."

Born in 1952. Played with Neil Young in a group called "Mynah Birds"! Never heard of that one! Anyone?

Once knew someone well who knew him peripherally . . . years ago.

Do you know Charlie Murphy? <8^)

I feel pity for him actually. I can't say I muster a laugh. It's sad, and it's pathetic to watch a man with his talent wither away.

do you think Kerry is going to bring up Rick James' death on the campaign trail...and blame Bush?!?

No doubt Bush administration policies prevented him from getting the help he deserved... I also question the timing of this, coming so close to the Democratic convention. Do you think Rove tainted his cocaine? :)

Actually, according to Fox News, it was indeed natural causes!

Yes indeed. Nothing more natural than a life full of drug and alcohol abuse. Just the after-effects of Charlie Murphy beating his ass 25 years ago...

Hey pal! I'm smokin' in this bar dammit! I don't care what the hell "Daddy Warbucks" thinks, or how much he wants to "protect" some bar-wench that didn't even vote for that schmuck in the first place. I'm a drunken mick and I came here to drink and smoke. If you don't like that you can shove it where the Sun don't shine buddy!

Yep. The Mynah Birds were pre-Buffalo Springfield. Rick James was in Canada avoiding the draft, Neil is Canadian, and they ended up for a short while together in the band. But Neil left right after for the U.S., met Stephen Stills somewhere, had his address in L.A., went there to look for him, and as legend has it, Stills was driving around, saw Neil standing on a corner looking lost, picked him up and invited him to join his new band.
