Tune into Savage NOW to hear Kerry's swiftboat machine gunner
savage.com | none

Posted on 08/06/2004 4:20:23 PM PDT by lonevoice

Whatever you usually think of him, tune into Savage live now!

He's spending the show (again) on getting the swiftboat vets story out there. His guest will be, for the second time, the machine gunner who served with John Kerry on his boat. Steve Gardner, I believe is his name.

Also, Savage is expressing his disappointment with Fox News, specifically O'Reilly, for spiking this story and essentially calling the veterans liars. Savage says it's because O'Reilly wants to get John Kerry on his show.

It's upsetting to think that when at long last, the truth comes out about Kerry, Savage ratchets up the hype or whatever he thought he was doing, and ends up weakening the message. It's not about Bush, it's about Kerry

In fairness to Savage, the question he asked Gardner about Bush was one sentence in a lengthy interview. I think it was an appropriate question, and it also gave Gardner the opportunity to clearly state that the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth is independent from the Bush administration, they want the President to stay out of it, and they've received no money from the Bush administration. Savage didn't pursue any follow-up questions about the President, nor has he weakened the swiftvet's story in any way IMO.

Absolutely great! I caught a little of Hannity earlier, before dinner, but didn't hear the whole show. Wonderful that he set the record straight. The Boston Globe is useful for only one reason in my house. I can't line a bird cage with it since I don't have a bird. But I have five miniature dachshunds who have occasional accidents while I'm at work, and The Globe handles that nicely.

Savage says it's because O'Reilly wants to get John Kerry on his show.

I frequently don't agree with Savage, but he could be on the money about this one. O'Reilly is frightened by some of the competition, so now it's all about 'who can I suck up to and get on my show so my ratings go up.'

I agree. Gardner was very straight forward in his answer. This is not about politics --it's about whether or not Kerry is qualified to lead this nation. Gardner made that very clear in his answer.

For anyone interested I used to work with Ensign Al French
who is the first guy in the Swiftboat Ad against Kerry. Al
was a deputy sheriff for Multnomah County S/O in Portland
for over 15 years, and then went to law school and is currently a Clackamas County Deputy District Attorney in a
Portland suburb. Al French was a "straight as they come" and if he told you something you could "take it to the bank!" Al would never get involved in an ad like this unless it was the "gospel truth!" I tried to expose the local media to airing this ad and interviewing Al French,
but they apparently choose to yield to the threatening fax
and/or letter from the DNC to the contrary!!!!!

Hmmm. My station is replaying the first hour of Savage. Maybe that's what he meant about Gardner being on again at the top of the hour? A replay?

Some of these guys were in the same group as Kerry.

From the FAQ at SwiftVets.com:

1. If most of Kerry's fellow Swift veterans don't support him, then who were all those guys with him at the Democratic Convention? They made it appear that Kerry has the complete support of his "Band of Brothers" from Vietnam.

John Kerry has been able to convince about 13 men who served on Swift boats in the Mekong Delta to support him, 7 or 8 of whom were at various times crew members on his own 6-man boat. Those are the men the Kerry campaign so prominently featured at the Democratic Convention. The photograph we have posted at SwiftVets.com shows Kerry with 19 of his fellow Swift boat OICs (Officers In Charge) in Coastal Division 11. Four OICs were not present for the photograph. Only one of his 23 fellow OICs from Coastal Division 11 supports John Kerry.

Overall, more than 250 Swift boat veterans are on the record questioning Kerry's fitness to serve as Commander-in-Chief. That list includes his entire chain of command -- every single officer Kerry served under in Vietnam. The Kerry game plan is to ignore all this and pretend that the 13 veterans his campaign jets around the country and puts up in 5-star hotels really represent the truth about his short, controversial combat tour.

The Swift boats fought in groups, so the other OICs who fought alongside Kerry know him well and can accurately describe what he did and did not do. In many cases Kerry's fellow OICs had a better perspective than his own crew members, since the latter had no way to determine whether he was following orders and how well he worked with his peers.

Thanks for the personal testimony about Al French. He sounds representative of the guys I saw in the C-Span press conference. All of them were successful, accomplished individuals. Please thank your friend for his service, and for his courage in stepping up to the plate again to try to protect our nation from having a Commander-in-Chief who is "Unfit to Command".

Al French's boss in teh DA's office is a real p/c animal,
so in the liberal bastion of Portland, Al will probably
be forced out of his job by the p/c crowd for all of the
notoriety, etc.
