After 17 years in prison, sadistic child killer Joel Steinberg insists he was not to blame for the death of his illegally adopted daughter Lisa and claims he was a worthy parent.
"I was a good father," Steinberg said in an interview with New York magazine. "Of course, I'm sorry my daughter's dead. But the medical reports showed no 'present' or 'historical' fractures or wounds. That means no history of abuse. Got it?"
"What about the people at school, her friends on West 10th Street?" he asked John Lombardi, the writer who scored the interview.
"How come nobody saw nothin'?" Steinberg said.
The interview will appear in next week's issue.
Steinberg, 63, claims that had he struck the 6-year-old whose body pathologists said bore a "map of pain" "the bruise would have been bigger than her head."
Steinberg did, however, admit to pushing Lisa, "with the soft pad, you know, on your palm?"
Steinberg was convicted in 1989 of manslaughter in Lisa's death, which occurred on Nov. 2, 1987 after the ex-lawyer pummeled her in a squalid Greenwich Village apartment where they lived with his brutalized lover Hedda Nussbaum, and another illegally adopted child, 17-month-old Travis Smiegel.
Steinberg was released from prison last month and was sent to the Fortune Society, a Harlem halfway house, where he is receiving counseling.

The unrepentant Steinberg also points a finger at nearly every lawyer involved in the case the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, former O.J. Simpson lawyer Barry Scheck who represented Nussbaum and his own lawyer, Ira London.

"I'm a good lawyer, disbarred or not, and it would be wrong to throw all of that experience away . . . And some day, I hope to practice again."

Just wait till the usual Celebrity suspects, start defending him. Why is this vermin still breathing?
Nice, very nice take. Sums up Steincreep/Dumbocrats brilliantly.
Most tax-funded federal programs mandate that a percentage is to be raised from private funds.
Wow my own beliefs about her have been confirmed. I thought she should have gotten some jail.
There are certain people who have an agenda against Hedda Nussbaum that has nothing to do with her complicity in the death of Lisa, or her battering at the hands of Joel Steinberg.
BTTT...
Many thanks for the realtime facts.
Of course the cokehead was responsible. News report said little Lisa lay on the bathroom floor for hours after Joker Joel hit her.
Hedda did nothing to help Lisa.
Any mother---even a marginal one-- would wonder where her child was after five minutes out of her sight.
Nussbaum is just as guilty. She skated b/c she was a (gag) "victim" of the devil Steinberg.
I'm surprised that he survived 17 years in prison, and that one of the *general population* didn't "Dahmer-ize" him. Of course, maybe he was isolated from them for all that time. Too bad, if he was. IMO, he still deserves death. He is evil.

_______________
I'm not surprised. All kinds of scum do just fine in prison. Most child molestors have no trouble in prison
????????
This doesn't make sense to me.
Thanks for the reminder.....I keep forgetting we are living in "civilized" times.
Let me tell you what Steinberg did in prison: He was officially employed in jail as a "paralegal," helping fellow sociopaths re-open their cases, file for appeals, do legal research, etc, ad nauseum. You can win many, many favors from the fellow inmates and their begrudging respect.
That's not how I understand it's been, historically:
"Instead, society and the even the justice system snickers and shares satisfied winks of understanding when it comes to the fate that awaits child molesters in prison."

I hear Michael Moore is planning a documentary, "Bowling For Child Killers."
You got a Problem? The gov't has a tax-paid program usually staffed by people with the Problem. Go figure.
I think the term that needs to be applied to him is Sociopath.
Abortion should have been retroactive in his case.

His own words demonstrate the twisted thinking and irrational rationalization of everything. It all happened around him, he was clearly the victim of circumstance - in his mind. Yep, he's the only good lawyer. (said with utmost sarcasm) Oh, and clearly a good father, too, - most 'good' parents push around their kids.
He give lawyers everywhere a bad name, slimy to the last.
That this creep is allowed to walk around the streets, speak out, maybe even practice law again, is chilling. The depraved child-killer epitomizes the Aberrant Culture.
You said it! He is depraved and unrepentant. And that makes him still a danger to those around. He should be disbarred permanently, but there is probably some like-minded lawyer out there willing to help him. Barf.
