BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) John Mellencamp's no stranger to politics, but the current presidential campaign is bringing out a newfound activism
He's joining Bruce Springsteen, the Dixie Chicks, Kenny ``Babyface'' Edmonds and other musicians to campaign against President Bush's re-election in an series of concerts in nine swing states in October.
Mellencamp tells The Herald-Times of Bloomington in an interview published today that he wasn't very politically active before the current administration. But things are different now because he feels the current mood in the country is silencing voices of protest.
Also, I couldn't access the actual interview in the Bloomington Herald-Times, I'm not registered there. Any FReeper Hoosiers have access????
Little pink houses for sure.
It is even more easy to brush off these clowns since their best music is more than twenty years behind them.
Yeah, he is full of crap. If anything I have seen more protests lately and no silencing of anything. Typical leftists bable. No celebrity has a clue of what is really going on anyway.
If he wants to protest against people who are attempting to silence others, why doesn't he protest against the terrorists in Iraq who have a bad habit of permanently silencing the voices of those who oppose them.
Little pinko houses...
Sheesh....this must be the weekend for Mellencamp - the Kerry PR worksheet must have it on their schedule....saw a CBS profile of him this AM - at my inlaws (with the volume down)......wondered why the heck they were profiling him....guess he's going to use politics to be relevant again.
Poor John -- music career fading, really reaching for something to jump start it, perhaps he ought to go back to finishing concrete.
I had thought Mellencamp was politically active for the left, also, and I think this article is pure horse-, er, stuff.
Am also tired of the "I am a Republican who cannot support Bush in this election" people.
Leftists are not good concrete finishers. Trust me.
CASE STUDY: ERIC FRANKLIN ROSSER
Eric Franklin Rosser was wanted by authorities for his alleged involvement in numerous offenses, including the production of a videotape in Thailand which depicted sexually explicit conduct between him and an eleven-year-old girl. Rosser later distributed the videotape to a resident of Bloomington, Indiana. He also allegedly conspired to transport, distribute, and receive videotapes, photographs, and magazines containing child pornography involving female children between the ages of nine and eleven years old. Some of these photographs and visual depictions were placed on the Internet as a direct result of being smuggled, allegedly by Rosser, from the United States to Thailand. Rosser was indicted on March 21, 2000, in the Southern District of Indiana and charged with the production, distribution, receipt, and ransportation of child pornography. As an admitted pedophile, Rosser was considered dangerous, especially to children.

Sorry about the double post.
I'm sure this has been covered ad nauseum elsewhere, but I'd like to add my two cents about bruce springsteen and jcm: I always thought bruce was a little strange if very energetic, but the song about the tormented child molester was the clincher that he was over the edge. as for mr johnny cougar, the music was fun, but in ever interview, video, or poster, you look like a freak. now i understand why.
I'm a libertarian who has never voted for a GOP presidential candidate before, but I'm voting for Bush have donated both to his campaign and to the Club for Growth.
I don't think there are many true Republicans not voting for Bush this time around...
Good for you! Welcome aboard!
I am a Republican who has never voted for a dem candidate, and never will. I agree with you that there probably aren't many true Republicans who aren't voting for Bush. I think it's used by Kerry supporters to get at the few that might be on the fence, Republican or otherwise.
As for Johnny Cougar: hate to break it to you, J.C., but if you're not hearing your new music on the radio, that doesn't mean you're being silenced for your political beliefs. It just means that you were in a business where performers have a short shelf life, and you have outlived yours. Some people extend it by continuing to put out good music and not actively insult their fan base, but that obviously doesn't apply to you. And frankly, I can go the rest of my life without having to listen to another clunky lyric like, "I cannot forget from where it is that I come from." Use your retirement to study grammar.
Not relevant.
In this country we don't slander people with the crimes of those with whom they worked 20 years ago.
If Mellencamp is defending this creep, it becomes relevant. If not, let's keep to the real issues, okay?
