LOS ANGELES (AP) - U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein has joined Mayor James Hahn's re-election campaign as its honorary chair, the campaign announced Monday.

Feinstein, a Democrat, has represented California in the U.S. Senate since 1992 and before that was mayor of San Francisco.

"I am very proud and honored that Sen. Feinstein has agreed to serve as honorary chair of my campaign," Hahn said in a statement. "She has been a great friend and partner in our efforts to make Los Angeles a great place to live."

Hahn faces competition from former state Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg, state Sen. Richard Alarcon, Councilman Bernard C. Parks and Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa, who lost to Hahn in the 2001 mayoral race.

Hahn was elected mayor after 16 years as city attorney and four years as city controller.

In April,, How innovative Hahn is ... Not

Hahn raids DWP funds (electric prices going up to cover 3% raise for employees and no layoffs)

Highly unlikely, at least I haven't seen any names of vianble candidates who either want or would accept the shot at it.

Maybe Bill Simon is getting bored. He lives down there, I think. ;-)

"Is there actually going to be a Republican running against Hahn ?"

It doesn't matter, he or she would never win.

The best thing to do is back Hahn because he's not as extreme as his competition. See this four-year-old flashback about one of his competitors: frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=3531

Ah, yes. Villaraigosa (who is running again) was the reason why Hahn seemed so appealing (and Tricky Dick even endorsed Aztlan Tony). Sad thing is that L.A. hasn't had a remotely conservative Mayor since Sam Yorty.

Well, I can't say that LA is a twin. At least there are more sane people in LA then in SF (they BARELY voted against the recall in LA, while it was a complete blowout in Baghdad by the Bay. And the tax raising initiative, SF is the ONLY county that wanted it]).

Still, any Republican in LA will have a hard time running. Hahn, as bad as he is, is certainly better then the competition (sort of like...SF's last mayorial race. As bad as the current mayor, Gay Marriage lover Gavin Newsom, the alternative...was a GREEN PARTY member). If I was forced to live in SF or LA, based purely on politics, I'd choose LA.
