The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

With the nation on high alert for al-Qaida terrorists, the Department of Homeland Security is putting its border officers through "etiquette" classes to soften their image and make them less threatening to arriving foreign immigrants, WorldNetDaily has learned.

Al-Qaida's U.S. Network
Arnaud de Borchgrave Monday, Aug. 16, 2004

Before we convince ourselves that al-Qaida is down for the count, check the stats.

Islamist extremists in the world as estimated by moderate Muslim leaders: about 12 million. Fundamentalist sympathizers: 120 million. Those numbers represent 1 percent and 10 percent of the world's Muslim population of 1.2 billion. The CIA puts the extremists much higher - 40 million.

Then there's the number who trust Osama bin Laden more than President Bush: a majority in Muslim countries, whose populations total 450 million.

European intelligence services know that an alarming number of mosques are privileged sanctuaries used by extremists. Self-proclaimed imams can choose any place, from a basement to a garage, and declare it a mosque, an Islamic place of worship.

Germany has 8,000 mosques, according to German intelligence officials, to minister to a Turkish minority of 2.4 million and some 500,000 North African Muslims. France has some 10,000 mosques for 6 million North Africans; the U.S., about 2,000.

Beyond normal Friday prayers in Western mosques, there is a common anti-American political message, virulent in Europe, more subtle and discreet in the United States. Intelligence chiefs on both sides of the Atlantic agree that the Western world in general and the U.S. in particular now face a global ideological foe convinced the U.S. is the fount of all evil.

France is summarily deporting imams who preach hatred and jihad, including one recently who had been a legal Turkish resident for 28 years.

Nasir Ahmad al Bahri, known as Abu Jandal, a former Osama bin Laden bodyguard, interviewed by Al Quds Al Arabi, a London-based, anti-U.S. Arab daily, said last week: "Al-Qaida is no longer an entity but an ideology against America. ... The plan is now to draw the U.S. into a confrontation with all the Islamic peoples. ... Bin Laden and al-Qaida have succeeded in drawing the U.S. into an unequal confrontation, not from a military technology standpoint but from the ideological aspect. Muslims [are now] fed up with the U.S., which lives in prosperity off our nation's resources. I believe the U.S. is heading for its demise. Now that it has found what it wanted, al-Qaida can melt into a new caldron, and a new giant would be reborn. ... Many Islamic world leaders would join it, and the confrontation with the U.S. would be inevitable. Al-Qaida would then [be] a vanguard army."

A veteran of Somalia and Bosnia, Yemeni-born Abu Jandal joined al-Qaida in 1996, the year bin Laden moved from Sudan to Afghanistan.

The FBI's recent arrests of two imams in Albany following a yearlong sting disclosed their interest in manpads (shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles). Few of the younger U.S. counterintelligence agents realize that manpads literally brought down the Soviet empire.

With U.S.-supplied Stinger missiles, the Afghan mujahideen, many of them fathers of today's al-Qaida terrorists, grounded Soviet fighter-bombers, gunships and troop transports. Only eight months elapsed between withdrawal of the last Soviet troops from Afghanistan on Feb. 15, 1989, to the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the liberation of Eastern Europe.

Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that al-Qaida seeks manpads several hundred thousand are former Soviet models readily available on the international arms black market as the weapon bin Laden believes could paralyze the U.S. or, at the very least, bring the world economy to a standstill. Three airliners brought down the same day in different parts of the world would probably send markets into a tailspin.

The U.S. government knows more about al-Qaida in Europe, the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia than it does about the self-hating American Muslim admirers of bin Laden now under the spell of Wahhabi imams. Compared to the $100 billion plus the U.S. spent on intelligence since Sept. 11, 2001, the resources devoted to the FBI's counterterrorist efforts on the home front are paltry: $1 billion for 2004.

If the most respected member of the Muslim community in Washington, D.C., with easy access to the White House and Congress in the 1990s, can plea bargain his way out of a plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah with more than $1 million of Moammar Gadhafi's moola, it is again a reasonable assumption that Abdurahman Alamoudi, a U.S. citizen, is but the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

He was on the board of half a dozen "charitable" Muslim foundations in the tri-state region, certified 75 Muslim chaplains for the U.S. armed forces, founded and once led the American Muslim Council (AMC), praised by FBI Director Robert Mueller for its mainstream moderation.

More recently, Mr. Mueller testified before Congress that he believes several hundred al-Qaida operatives are living in America. He deliberately understates the case to avoid the label of Islamophobe Muslim-basher.

Some 500 cases of suspected terrorist links are now under surveillance. If one includes al-Qaida's support group of America-hating Muslim fundamentalists with U.S. passports, Osama bin Laden's U.S. footprint is large by any measure.

The latest estimate of illegals in the U.S. is now closer to 12 million than the officially conceded 8 million. ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has 2,300 agents tasked with apprehending and deporting some 80,000 "criminal aliens" in the U.S., as well as detaining and removing 320,000 "absconders," foreign nationals ordered deported and now on the lam. Several thousand Arabs and other Muslims are among them.

Again, the most incendiary parts of the original Atlantic Monthly article are left out of this article by the Aussies. Why? Are they trying to make Al-Qaeda look like a bunch of normal guys?

The vermin said that muslims should kill no more than 4 million infidels and leave 10 million homeless.

Terrorist nuclear strike in US: Risk is growing
By Nicholas D. Kristof

IF A 10-kiloton nuclear weapon, a midget even smaller than the one that destroyed Hiroshima, exploded in Times Square, the fireball would reach tens of millions of degrees Celsius.

It would vaporise or destroy the theatre district, Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building, Grand Central Terminal and Carnegie Hall (along with me and my building). The blast would partly destroy a much larger area, including the United Nations. On a weekday, some 500,000 people would be killed.

Could this happen? Unfortunately, it could - and many experts believe that such an attack, somewhere, is likely.

The Aspen Strategy Group, a bipartisan assortment of policy mavens, focused on nuclear risks at its annual meeting here last week, and the consensus was twofold: the danger of nuclear terrorism is much greater than the public believes, and the United States government hasn't done nearly enough to reduce it.

New Al-Qaeda leaders may be planning more attacks

NEW YORK - American and Pakistani authorities fear a 'second string' of Al-Qaeda leaders is plotting a major new attack after a terrorist summit in Pakistan, Time magazine reported.

Some United States officials fear the meeting could have been a key planning session ahead of a major attack, similar to the way a 2000 meeting in Kuala Lumpur was ahead of the Sept 11 terror attacks in the US.

'The personalities involved, the operations, the fact that a major explosives expert came here and went back,' Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf told the magazine, 'all this was extremely significant.'

Iraq: Foreigners threatening mosque
National conference troubled by protests, attacks

Sunday, August 15, 2004 Posted: 4:44 PM EDT (2044 GMT)

The Imam Ali mosque serves as camp for supports of al-Sadr.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Twenty-five heavily armed foreigners holed up inside the Imam Ali Mosque in Najaf have rigged it with explosives and are threatening to blow up the building if attacked, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Sunday in a written statement.

The statement said the interim Iraqi government has ordered national guard forces not to target the mosque, and not to approach it.

The mosque, in the center of Najaf, is a holy site to Shiite Muslims. They believe it houses the tomb of the Prophet Muhammed's cousin and son-in-law. (snip)

Until we get serious about terrorism, and recognize who the real enemy is, I will refuse to read another terror article.

Either shut down the damn border and lock up ALL islamics, or go to sleep and wait for the next attack...because it will happen...and we will have only ourselves to blame for allowing PC and leftist ideals to win over common sense and patriotism.

When a murderer is in your house, and you allow him sanctuary therein, then who is to blame when he slits your throat as you sleep? [This must be too simple a concept for our government and the islamic apologists here on FR]

That was my post on this thread...some good responses..and most agree even more emphatically.

Chemical scare at US Embassy in M'sia

KUALA LUMPUR - Firefighters rushed to the US Embassy in Malaysia on Monday after the building received an envelope containing an 'unidentified substance', officials said.

Tests would be conducted on the letter, but until results were returned, it was unknown if the envelope contained any dangerous substances, said embassy spokesman Frank Whitaker.

'An envelope addressed to the US embassy arrived earlier this morning,' Mr Whitaker told The Associated Press. 'An embassy staff opened the envelope to find an unidentified substance.'

A team from the Fire Department's Hazardous Materials unit was called to inspect the letter, he said, adding the embassy would not be closed and operations have resumed normally.

'All appropriate action is being taken,' he said.

Mr Whitaker declined to say whether the envelope was mailed to the embassy or dropped off there. -- AP

Tropical Storm Earl Discussion Number 10

Statement as of 11:00 PM EDT on August 15, 2004

if not for the government of Venezuela this probably would have been
the last advisory on Earl...at least for now. The reconnaissance
aircraft scheduled to investigate Earl this evening was denied
access to venezuelan airspace.
Had they been able to get to the
storm...I doubt they would have found a closed circulation...as the
Quikscat ambiguities at 22z look more like an open wave.
However...there is enough doubt to keep advisories going until the
next aircraft arrives tomorrow morning...and indications are that
that mission will be allowed to proceed.

------

Earl is becoming less of a threat as time goes on it seems.. track into the Yucatan now looks more likely.

What's up with Venezuela? Even CUBA lets us in their airspace for Hurricane Recon.

Controversial Scientist Who Calls For A Non-Violent "Jihad" Makes Many Nervous
By Jeremy Reynalds

A recent post on the conservative bulletin board service Free Republic

He promptly made the rounds to other countries, and all shot him down. THEN, he turned the other cheek, and even sent Saddam e -mail."

Wait a min, is this one we discussed with him?!

I managed to miss the report on the nuclear stuff, or he
didn't talk about it.

I was surprised that he didn't go right into it.

I know the last 2 weeks, he has said that there is no reason
they haven't built a simple one, as it is not that difficult. ( Should he have added for me to do? LOL)

He has predicted that they will use one in the next 5 years.

He said again that "we must go and fight them, there, or
they will come here".

He had a rant against some security guy, who had been on
KGO and suggested that they use barcodes on the shipping
containers, to give the history.

Dr. Bill is right of course, we aren't so interested in
the path they take, but only in what they contain.

I was lost in google, and had a bad station tonight, so
missed a lot of him.

Next week, he will fill in 7 to 10 pm Thurs and Friday. and

still do the Sat and Sunday show.

I expected him to plunge right in, wonder if he got a call
telling him that he could not do a nuclear show? He has recently said that he is still under the "Don't talk about that" rules.

They said an earthquake Cambria Calif, at 12:39 am, minutes
ago, I didn't hear the size.

There are 7 wildfires in Calif now, one has burned 20 homes
and the cause is UNKNOWN.
