The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

With the nation on high alert for al-Qaida terrorists, the Department of Homeland Security is putting its border officers through "etiquette" classes to soften their image and make them less threatening to arriving foreign immigrants, WorldNetDaily has learned.

Mexicans find narrow tunnel at U.S. border

Associated Press
Aug. 22, 2004 12:00 AM

MEXICO CITY - Mexican federal police announced Saturday that they had discovered a small tunnel that apparently leads under the U.S. border near San Diego.

The tunnel, which started from an industrial park near the Otay Mesa crossing, was only about 33 feet long and 1.5 feet in diameter.

Digging tools and freshly dug dirt were found inside, and the tunnel was presumably under construction.

Mexican authorities asked U.S. law-enforcement agencies to investigate where the tunnel was headed. They said they believed the tunnel was intended to move migrants or contraband into the United States, and said it may connect to storm drains in California.

Tighter coastal borders
By BILL GRAVELAND

CALGARY (CP) - Frustrated by intense security along the British Columbia-Washington border, smugglers of both drugs and people are heading to Alberta in search of an easier route into the United States, say law enforcement officials.

"They will continue to move wherever they can get through," said Monique Hirko of immigration customs enforcement in Helena, Mont. "It's just a game for them. Wherever it's easiest to go across, that's where they're going to move.

Hirko said there have been definite signs that smuggling is picking up inland.

"I'd say for the last year and a half they're slowly working their way east because of the heat they were getting from our . . counterparts over in the Blaine, Wash., area."

Last month, 14 South Koreans were arrested trying to sneak into the U.S. near the Chief Mountain border crossing between Alberta and Montana. It was the second attempted smuggling operation on the Alberta-Montana border this year.

In February, 10 people from South Korea were arrested after a failed attempt to smuggle them into the U.S. All were deported.

"The offenders are looking for a more porous part of the border to get through so they're starting to come further east to look for a route south," said RCMP Const. Dale Duschesne, a member of the Integrated Border Enforcement Team stationed in Raymond, Alta.

Smuggling attempts aren't confined to human cargo, he added.

"We've definitely had confirmed activity of drug smuggling that is geared to getting . . marijuana from British Columbia into the United States through the Alberta-Montana corridor," said Duschesne.

Not knowing the exact motivation behind the smuggling is especially troubling to Hirko, who also has to assess terrorist threats.

"The smugglers -are they a terrorist threat? Are they coming here to be prostitutes? Are they working for a brothel that takes that money and sends it back to a terrorist country?" she asked.

"They're pretty equally important because there's a profit to be made off both and you have lives at stake."

Duschesne said it's also important to determine how much the individuals being smuggled into the U.S. know.

"There's a difference between human smuggling and human trafficking," said Duschesne.

"Trafficking is a scenario where you are being told you are going to work in the hotel industry and in fact you're going to end up in the illicit sex trade," he said.

"You're being moved by organized crime and people who convince young girls and coerce them into a situation they don't want to be involved in."

Smugglers might not find Alberta any easier to get through, however, said Richard Huntley of the Canada Border Services Agency and Immigration Enforcement.

"How desperate are you when you're in the mountains in the middle of the night? I don't know if I would consider that easy," said Huntley

RCMP left in the dark about container
By MURRAY BREWSTER

HALIFAX (CP) - It took three days for Canada's national police force to be told that a suspicious shipping container was missing from a Halifax pier last spring.

The theft of the boxcar-size crate in mid-April and the delay in reporting it initially sent shivers through senior ranks of the RCMP, Canada's lead federal agency in the war on terrorism

The rioting students in Colorado.

I have a couple thoughts on them.

Put them in a uniform and send them to the war front.

Cancel all scholarships and put them on the street.

Next week, Colorado will be quiet, as these ______will all be in New York as part of the 250,000 ____ who will be there to "protest".

I hope a New York horse goes berserk in the middle of them.

Is this what kids go to school to learn, the answer is yes, if they are commies in training.

Some of this is info we already know, but, there are a few new/updated tidbits.

Al-Qaida Tip Boosts Security in Honduras

UPDATED - Sunday August 22, 2004 4:29pm from our sister station WJLA-TV

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) - Honduras tightened security at foreign embassies and declared a national terror alert after receiving information that al-Qaida (website/news) was trying to recruit Hondurans to attack embassies of the United States, Britain, Spain and El Salvador, a government official said Sunday.

The heightened security was implemented three days ago after Honduras' intelligence services received reports of a plan allegedly targeting those countries' embassies here and abroad, Security Minister Oscar Alvarez said.

"We are facing a state of preventative national alert, because our intelligence services report that al-Qaida foreigners have made offers for Hondurans to carry out sabotage both here and abroad," Alvarez said at a news conference.

Some Hondurans reportedly were offered money to carry out attacks, while others were approached on ideological grounds. Honduras has a tiny Islamic community.

"We believe that there are Hondurans who could accept these offers, some for money, and others because they believe in Islam," Alvarez said. "Our best agents are investigating the case and working out a strategy to prevent international terrorists from using Honduras as a base for training terrorists."

The purported al-Qaida plot was directly linked to the war in Iraq, which is why it targeted the United States, Britain and El Salvador, Alvarez said.

However, it was unclear why Spain was targeted since Madrid pulled its troops out of Iraq earlier this year.

Honduras withdrew its 370 soldiers in April.

"We are trying to avoid any problems," Alvarez said. "Starting three days ago, we have redoubled security measures at the embassies of those nations involved in Iraq. This situation will continue for the foreseeable future."

In July, Alvarez said a Saudi-born terror suspect sought by U.S. officials was spotted earlier this year at an Internet cafe in the Honduran capital before fleeing the country.

The man, Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, once lived in South Florida and is the subject of an FBI (website) alert issued in 2003. The agency has asked law enforcement agencies and the public to be on the lookout for Shukrijumah on the grounds he may be plotting terrorist attacks against the United States or its interests abroad.

Shukrijumah, 29, apparently entered Honduras illegally from Nicaragua or Panama.

Alvarez refused to elaborate on the details surrounding the sighting of Shukrijumah and his subsequent disappearance.

However, Alvarez did not directly link Shukrijumah to the current alert, noting "his intention is to get into the United States" to commit attacks there.

Thanks, I'm putting together a bit of a google hotlink page with a bunch of specific keywords... it is coming in handy. :)

I do also get the feeling that we are not getting the full story on some things going on. I was wondering if the FBI set up shop down in Trinidad because they know an attack is about to be pulled off. Maybe they are preparing to gather evidence after the fact? It's all kind of odd...

May I briefly interrupt the TM thread flow?

FReeper Frank_Discussion is reporting an apparent unusual air quality problem in Houston--he's lived in the area a long time, has posted a thread on tonight's problem.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1197179/posts

Does anyone have any news of any unusual occurances in the area? Apparently bad smells aren't unusual, but this one is alarming to a long-time resident.

Any info greatly appreciated, please post to the linked thread, thank you very much.
