NYC Welcomes GOP with 'Kill the President' Play

In advance of the GOP convention at the end of this month, New York City is being plastered with stickers that read, "I'm Gonna Kill the President" - supposedly an advertisement for a new off-Broadway play staged by the anti-war protest group United for Peace and Justice.

"It's the name of a new comedy to run in the East Village during the Republican Convention," WABC Radio's George Weber reported Tuesday morning.

Weber called the box office to find out what could be funny about the murder of an American president, and got this recorded response:

"Howdy," chirped a spokesman. "You've reached the information and instruction hotline for, 'I'm Gonna Kill the President - a Federal Offense."

The unidentified voice goes on to explain that that the play is the story of a young man's plot to kidnap the president in hopes of sparking a revolution that installs a puppet Democracy - featuring real puppets.

The play also includes an audience participation segment where theater-goers are supposed to crank call the White House to demand that President Bush end the war in Iraq.

"If you're some kind of law enforcement agent or official, hang up now," the information hotline concludes. "There's nothing illegal happening here. Just some old-fashioned, constitutionally sanctioned fun."

After Weber's report, WABC's "Curtis & Kuby Show" was deluged with callers outraged over the radical thespian stunt.

Even Communist lawyer-turned-commentator Ron Kuby sounded irked, explaining, "Generally speaking, you cannot directly threaten the president's life." While the play might be "on proper side of the first amendment," he said, "it's not by much."

First a book to be published around the convention where two people discuss how to kill the president and now this.

Time for the FBI to step in.

The behaviour of the Rats during this election reminds me more and more of the supporters of McGovern and Mondale.

Whatever these loonies think this is not going to help their candidate - just the opposite.

Can we round up these people and introduce them to a few terrorists?

I'd like to see how they feel about the war on terror after a few minutes with a terrorist.

The Secret Service should just shut it down. Let these sleazeballs scream First Amendment. By the time their case comes to court the election and hopefully the war will be over.

In the interim we have to realize that we are in a state of war and that treason ought to be prosecuted not tolerated.

I heard Weber this morning. They even gave directions on how to get to the theater. I suspect quite a few men in black will be there.

A wish a few good men in Marine Green would drop by the theater.

And we all know how well that worked out for them, don't we.

Whenever FReepers suggest that this type of behavior by leftists needs to be stopped, I say let them keep shooting themselves in the foot.

I think we should call on Mr. Kerry to denounce this as a crass and acebackward way to make a point... But then he'll secretly view the play and give it a thumbs up...

I don't know what people see in that guy.

Exactly my point!

I think these antics will convince a lot of the independents and also help get the conservative voters to the polling stations on the day.

These are the kinds of human waste who will scream for my protection the loudest when the next attack comes.

And will scream louder still, if I forget to provide it.

The depths the Left will stoop to continues to amaze me.

Liberalism is nothing but the epitomy of hopelessness, despair and blind hatred. I feel sorry for them.

Has somebody notified the Secret Service? I don't think there's anything funny about a threat to kill the President.

Don't be surprised if these clowns get a visit from the Secret Service. And don't expect this "play" to open...

I think we want a nationwide telecast of this play. Maybe Kerry will stop by and say "this is the heart and soul of America"

We want more stuff like this.

That's just what the libs want them to do - shut down books and plays about murdering the president to PROVE that Bush-Ashcroft-Patriot Act are denying people their civil rights.

It would be a lie, of course, but that's clearly the goal of these nimrods. If the Secret Service paid them a visit, you KNOW that will turn into the story and how Bush can't tolerate dissent and how Ashcroft has Nazi storm troopers, etc. - all just in time for the convention.

I say ignore them until the convention is over and then send in the muscle.

Naw. Let them talk. They only serve our side by doing so.

I always thought that any threat to kill the President was taken seriously. Arrests should be made.

In a time of WAR, I believe that the Constitution grants the President special powers via the use of Executive Orders that enable him, were he inclined to use them, powers that can limit or suppress rights provided to the people.
