CHICAGO, Aug. 10 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):

Senator Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) will hold a press conference on August 11, 2004 during which he will call for an extension of the 1994 ban on semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns. Durbin is expected to be joined on stage by several chiefs of police who will put on display examples of the banned firearms. The expected location of the press conference is Chicago.

Earlier this week, Sen. Durbin was seen campaigning around the state with Senate hopeful Barack Obama and Democratic Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards.

For that reason, the ISRA finds it interesting that Chicago was chosen as the location for a press conference supporting a ban on semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns. If Mr. Durbin had any courage of conviction, he'd gather up candidates Obama and Edwards, and head on off to Mt. Vernon, Quincy, or some other downstate location to hold the press conference. After all, southern Illinoisans have a right to hear first-hand where Obama and Edwards stand on this important issue, don't they?

---

The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful, and responsible firearms ownership. For over a century, the ISRA has represented the interests of over 1.5 million law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.

If that ban is extended, that should tell us everything we need to know about the value of the Republicans holding the majority in the Congress and the Senate.

If the House and Senate both have to pass it, then it won't happen. If just the Senate, who knows.

Chicago is Illinois' liberal cesspool. If it weren't for the Windy City, Bush and Keyes would be a cinch to win the Land Of Lincoln.

100$ says he won't showcase the legal versions.

If they want I'll bring my legal MAK-90 over. The citizens can compare it's lack of a bayonet lug and threaded muzzle to the banned original.

Always assuming Congress doesn't get called, or call itself, back into session to deal the with 9-11 commision "report recommendations. Then it could be more like 15 or 20 days. In any event, alot can be done, given that the bills have already been filed, in 4 or 5 days. The fat lady may be warming up her pipes, but ain't sung yet.

What do Kalishnikov variants have to do with AWB'94? They were restricted to plain-barrel thumbhole variants before the AWB'94 was passed, and will remain so if it expires.

In other news, John Kerry served in Viet Nam, gas costs too much, most men watched both Charlie's Angels and Baywatch with the sound off, and Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.

Seriously, why is this news? Even my little girl's hamster knows that Durbin is a statist scumbag liberal GFW (gun fearing wussie). (/multiple redundancies). It must be a REALLY slow news day.
